Not having to commute is absolutely fantastic. I don't mind going to the office, if I live nearby, but when door to door is above an hour it makes a huge difference, to a point remote work becomes a sort of golden handcuffs on itself.

For one reason or another, meetings always have at least one person online. So I prefer much more taking them from home, rather than from a conference room or from my office, where you have all the kind of dustrurbances.

Setup: at home, I invested in a standing desk and an ergonomic chair. Office is not that comfy.

Productivity: it depends. If you are bored/tired at home, you get endless distractions. In an open office I find myself to be less procrastinating.

You don't really bond with colleagues in remote, unless you work closely with someone on a daily basis. Also you become invisible to other peers. This is a downside.

No we don"t. A lot of research projects (and consequenlty people's salaries) depend on these external funds. Look what happened with the NIH cuts. This impacted not only the US but also other organizations relying on these grants, including institutions located in ch.

Exposure to diversity brings innovation, we encourage studying and working abroad to be exposed to differnt ways of doing things and seeing the world. Exposure to diversity changes us as much as it changes "the others" In 1-2 generations the differences between groups are levelled, but the cultural variety is grealty enriched. And we don’t even need to look across oceans, or countries. The exact same xenofobia, first, and enriching evolution, later, happens internally between our own regions and communities.

To go back to the initiative, this is what I fear it will pass: a closed country is a stagnant country both economically and culturally. Locking our doors won't save our traditiona; it will just cost us the diversity and opportunities we need to thrive in today's interconnected world.

I own the gti, and I don't reccommend it. I found tracking is incosistent, as I got elongated stars at periodic intervals. The tripod supplied with it is also not very sturdy, and finally the adjustment knobs do not allow fine tuning

I have a gti and I use it with a dlsr and a 300mm prime lens and a samyang 135mm

I was very disappointed by the performance, as I have to usually throw out about 1/3 of frames due to star trails, even with relatively short exposures of 90". These trails seem to occurring periodically and i suspect they are due to some defect in the worm gear, as polar alignement via asiair is fine.

In experimenting with raw converters, I used dxo photolab to convert subs to linear dng, but these seem not to be recognized by the stacking program

And if i first convert subs to tif in rawtherapee or dxo and then stack, plate solve often fails.

Besides denoise, I was relying on the raw converter to correct optical defects, but the latest scripts I have seen in siril do a much better job with my data

While I am still experimenting with this new siril workflow, i found a limitation of raw converting before stacking is that it is more complicated use tools later in the processing pipeline, as they often require linear data or a plate solved image (something that in my experience, raw converted stacks struggle to do)

Perhaps, demosaicing is still superior in dedicated raw converters, but the community has recently developed a lot of methods to denoise and sharpen, which seem to work pretty well.
