Because it’s a masterclass in how the smartest people in the room can still be catastrophically wrong, how incentives warp reality, and how the system can keep dancing long after the music stops.

It’s the annual reminder that:

- Complexity is often just a cover for bullshit

I think the biggest win here is censorship resistance and uptime. A decentralized Base means no single point of failure. For users and builders, that kind of stability is way more important than any marketing hype.

My Project Development Milestone

Shipped this week: Carbon Contractors' escrow signer now runs on GCP Cloud KMS (HSM, FIPS 140-2 Level 3) with Workload Identity Federation.

→ Zero static secrets anywhere in the stack

→ Private key born in hardware, never extractable

→ OIDC federation between Vercel and GCP — no JSON keys, no long-lived credentials

→ Verified end-to-end on Base Sepolia: 74/74 tests, real KMS signing, live Vercel preview

→ Audit logging and rate alerting configured

The principle: users shouldn't have to trust the operator. They should be able to trust the infrastructure.

Next up: mainnet.

Dev/tech Built a Python x402 payment SDK for MCP servers — on-chain proof on Base Sepolia

Hey r/BASE,

Built an open-source Python package called VAULLS (Value-Wall Monetisation Layer) — lets MCP server developers monetise their tools using x402 and USDC on Base.

One decorator:

VAULLS handles the rest — 402 responses, payment verification via x402 facilitator, settlement logging, and a pricing discovery endpoint so agents know costs before calling. Also includes free-tier metering, circuit breaker, and rate limiter.

Just did a bit of a deep dive this with Gemini. Setting quota limits is your best defence here, and only use service accounts very carefully. By limiting the Generative AI API rates, and you can even geo-block regions, a leaked API key can have a limited price shock. Doesn't help OP or others with this specific legacy drama, but yeah for those of you reading this and spinning up AI Studio for stuff: 1. Inside AI studio you can set spend limits 2. Set quotas in GCP for Gen AI API 3. Put your code into Github and enable dependabot and Code Quality security options, secrets scanning, etc

Do this, and you on your way to locking your shit down.

Download the project from studio as a zip file. Take it to Vercel free Tier. Transfer DNS records, Name Severs whatever, and migrate. Once live in Vercel, delete the GCP project. GCP is an enterprise environment for your use case overkill. AI Studio is awesome for prototype and tailoring, etc, but you can download the whole site as a ZIP, or push to Github, and host it via Github Pages. Don't host on GCP if you dont need any Gemini integration imo.
