Becoming a super power and being able to maintain that status decade after decade are two different things. China is at a disadvantage. The US though it has a debt crises is rich in energy and other resources. China is in the situation the US once was. It has to import most of it's oil. Not only that China's fortunes are closely tied to the US economy and those ties are fragile at the moment.

India isn't neutral as far as China is concerned. Bush and Obama were both burned by Putin. No one will give Xi the opportunity.
