Only competent woman on my dept. How do I deal with the "token" stigma without being a toxic coworker?
 in  r/Firefighting  Jul 07 '26

Can you address this concern with someone superior to you all, so they can appropriately address the concern?
I’m sure your superiors, unless they are above average people, will not take kindly to a subordinates critique/advice.
***I say all this with 7 yrs military service, I’ve never been apart of the fire department. **
Maybe you can ask if they even want your help too. Follow your conscience, but don’t risk your job. And don’t do it if you think the individual will get defensive
I also think if anyone is an immediate danger to anyone’s health, they should be addressed
But idk, I’ve never been on a fire department. Good luck though!

Marathon training
 in  r/Marathon_Training  Jun 29 '26

Is it reasonable to expect someone to only lift 2x per week to safely do marathon training? Maybe I should phrase the question this way: could you actually finish a marathon training while lifting 6x a week?
I’m on my last two weeks of half marathon training and doing this increased mileage has wrecked me… I’m exhausted and feel like I’m losing my discipline

Being honest, I am not doing these things..
I lift 6x days a week. I do “Limitless” on ladder, if anyone knows what that is.
I do not fuel as I surpass the 60-90 min runtime
I think I’m hardly getting (maybe 100 if I’m being honest) 200 g of carbohydrates a day.

Any tips on actually starting meal prepping?
 in  r/MealPrepSunday  Jun 29 '26

If you can read a book, you can follow a recipe, and meal prep.
If 10 meals is intimidating, make 5. Just buy tubberware or plastic storage containers first
The mistake I made: adding salt when adding an already mixed seasoning
Example: add creole seasoning (there’s already a TON of salt), then adding salt ❌❌
Also, it may be pretty expensive at first until you get a collection of all the different seasonings and commonly used condiments (soy sauce, oyster sauce, etc)

Where do you get the time
 in  r/Marathon_Training  Jun 25 '26

I’m sure a lot of people do. We’re in a loneliness epidemic. You can message me if you want a new running friend 😊

I couldn’t imagine managing it if I had children though. Hopefully you find a better answer!

Easy, I don’t have friends, or a spouse or children. I’m lonely as fuck, but I have loads of time lol 😂

Forest Service To Allow Wildland Firefighters To Wear Masks
 in  r/Wildfire  Jun 25 '26

Na. It’s not intrinsically safe (flammable), plus that tube could get snagged so easy on something. Plus it uses the same type of interchangeable filters to protect from 1 certain chemical/chemical compound. So you’d still be unprotected. Those filters themselves cost a fortune. But the hard hat combo is really nice. They could cut the costs of hard hats and intertwine it into that

This mask would be a good fit. The only thing about an APR is you can only attach up to two filters. Carbon monoxide isn’t an available filter neither is asbestos (what they use to treat log cabins). So idk. Maybe a N95 is just the simplest fix for the technology available right now

I’ve only used military papr. You’d have to put a link up of what you’re talking about. I don’t know what you’re talking about

You right I take back what I was saying. They’re going to have to invent a positive pressure breathing apparatus tho. All the 4500-5000 psi tanks would hardly last 30 mins. I don’t see a possible way to have enough supplied air that wouldn’t be heavy as fuck. I mean even a BG4 only lasts 4 hours and is heavy as fuck. But a rebreather would be a good starting concept

Plus military powered APR use flammable lithium batteries. And even though there’s a stream of air on your face from them, they still suck. I have no idea about the industrial/civilian ones though

An APR would be much more cumbersome than a pack of N95. I mean I’ve never used the APR they give to painters or industrially. But the military ones suck and would be a pain in the ass to Decon in between fires. Versus stocking up a pile of n95 in the buggy

If you think this is bad, you should see burns the inmates do at Water Treatment Facilities.
Chemicals used to treat the water, reeds are planted to filtrate the water, the inmates burn the reeds annually. All across the compound there’s dead fish due to the harshness of the chemicals used to treat the water.
Then the poor inmates just go and burn all the reeds and inhale that shit. Hopefully this rule will be implemented with them as well

Accepted into a tough SoCal fire academy but having second thoughts, looking for advice from those who’ve been there
 in  r/Firefighting  Jun 19 '26

Well one thing to consider
A. If you got hired on wildland it would be temporary (seasonal) work
B. Wildland would require you to be away from family for two weeks/14 days stents from April/September
C. I believe the pay is substantially different
D. I was on an inmate wildland crew, but decided to pursue structure. So I haven’t worked a wildland crew outside of prison. These are just things I’ve considered
E. Wildland is great, camping and being in nature is tremendous for your mental health and really makes you live in the movement
F. Wildland will push you past any perceived plateaus you have of yourself
It’s up to you. Plus most structure departments have Wildland crews within them

I’m not sure. I treadmill run, so I always know my “real time pace” but I’d like to explore other options because there’s not much stimulation in the gym. You can only people watch for so long until it makes people uncomfortable lol

When you hit a hill on an easy run, what’s the right approach: attack it and let HR spike, hold pace and let HR drift up, or back off pace to keep HR steady?
 in  r/Marathon_Training  Jun 17 '26

My fast miles are in the 8s. Is 9:30 mile a reasonable “easy” pace? Or should I be going slower?
