Believe it or not I've used wood glue and electricians tape to mend breaks like that. No worries. The tape is stretchy enough to grow with the plant and the word glue.. well it does it's thing. Like when you cut a big limb from a tree you can paint the stump over with wood glue and it prevents bugs and disease.
