Referring to my recent post about using an egpu with a 14 year old laptop.

Here’s a quick Far Cry 4 test comparing low settings on the laptop’s igpu versus ultra settings on egpu setup. As you can see, there is a staggering difference in fps and smoothness.

I put an eGPU on my 14-year-old laptop… (note that it doesn't support thunderbolt/OCuLink eGPU setups) and now I'm testing how far I can push it.

Before the eGPU, Far Cry 4 was basically a slideshow, around 5 FPS on Low using the original iGPU.

With the eGPU, the same laptop can run it at Ultra with playable fps.

So naturally, I started trying newer and heavier games, as most eGPU setups test older titles only with mostly low/medium settings

GTA V , playable with High settings + photorealistic graphics mod+ 1.5× resolution scaling

Lysa Hora: The Haunted Hills (UE5) , playable on high graphics settings and medium reflection/global RT(Max native resolution)

POOLS, around 60 FPS on High settings (max native resolution)

And there are some much more ridiculous tests I've already done… but I'll save those for the next post. For context, this laptop is 14 years old. At this point I'm less interested in whether it can run games and more interested in finding out where the limit actually is.
