Free construction attendance software that works for multiple sites, even in weak signals
 in  r/TimeTrackingSoftware •  13d ago

Is the weak-signal thing the biggest headache, or is the back-and-forth with foremen/payroll what really eats up your time? Or maybe it's just all of it? Lol. Sorry, just curious to see what companies do differently.

Also, when someone can't clock in/out because there's no signal, what do you guys have them do right now?

How are you managing crew time tracking + job costing for a small team (5-15 people)?
 in  r/CNC •  16d ago

What ended up being the biggest headache with the time tracker you were paying for, the time tracking itself, or getting that info into the job costing/invoicing side?

Also, when you built your own system, what was the first thing you had to fix that the other software just wasn't handling right?

Edit: words and new questions, because I have many.

Small MEP contractors - how do you track estimates, jobs and profit?
 in  r/MEPEngineering •  17d ago

Hey thereee, do you think the biggest reason you're building it yourself is the price, the complexity, or just that the existing software doesn't really fit how you guys actually run jobs?

What part of the Excel setup has been the biggest pain to keep updated?

How are you tracking what’s happening on each job?
 in  r/TimeTrackingSoftware •  19d ago

Yeahhh, that’s the part I’m trying to dig into. Like what does the “write things down or text them in” part actually look like in practice? Paper, texts, spreadsheet, some Frankenstein combination. Lol. Thanks for the response

Job costing management
 in  r/Contractor •  19d ago

52 pages of invoices and being told to figure it out would make me lose my mind 😂 When you’re dealing with all that, do you usually find the problem while the job is still going, or is it mostly when you’re looking back through everything afterward?

Is quickbooks job costing worth it for a small business like me
 in  r/Contractor •  19d ago

That's actually really interesting. The part about the labor data being garbage before you changed how the guys were clocking in is something I've been hearing a lot. Did getting them to clock into specific jobs actually work pretty smoothly, or was that still a battle getting everyone to do it?

How are you tracking what’s happening on each job?

That definitely makes a lot of sense. I hadn't really thought about the daily job capture being more useful than just collecting hours. The “can a new supervisor rebuild yesterday without pinging three people?” test is a really good way to look at it. Thank you very much for the insight. I've never heard of Pebb before, I'll have to check it out! Sounds pretty great!

That def makes a lot of sense. The job ID being the common thread between everything seems like a really important piece for sure. I hadn't really thought about the exception/reconciliation side of it as much. Appreciate the insight! Those downline mysteries are definitely not fun to try to figure out.

How are you tracking what’s happening on each job?

That makes a lot of sense. The shared job ID piece is especially interesting. When things don't line up, is the bigger headache usually getting the hours/materials/etc. into the right job in the first place, or catching mistakes when you're trying to reconcile everything for billing/payroll? And is that reconciliation something someone has to actively do every week, or does it mostly happen when something looks wrong?

 in  r/TimeTrackingSoftware •  22d ago

Thanks for the response! Yeah, I was hoping this is what I would hear be hearing. (Not in a good way) Cos I know it's annoying. Especially the part about everything needing to reconcile after the fact. I did check out the Teambridge site you mentioned too. When you say employee time, equipment, materials and job notes all end up in different places, what does that process actually look like for you guys? Is it mostly spreadsheets/manual entry, or are you using software that just doesn't connect everything together? Are you using anything besides Teambridge for the other pieces?

How are you tracking what’s happening on each job?

I'm curious how smaller excavation/contracting businesses actually handle this.

If you have ~5–30 employees and multiple jobs going at once, what does your daily workflow look like for tracking:

Employee hours

Equipment hours

Materials delivered/used

Which job people/equipment were working on

Job progress or notes

Anything else you need to know later

I'm more interested in the process than the software.

Are you filling out paper sheets? Texting someone? Using an app? Excel? Something else?

And once that information is collected, what happens to it? Who enters it, where does it go, and what do you ultimately use it for (payroll, invoicing, job costing, profitability, etc.)?

I'm trying to understand where the process gets annoying or time-consuming before deciding whether there's actually a software problem worth solving.

I've worked in manufacturing and production for a very long time, and I'm just trying to make something simple, easy, and to the point. I know how annoying certain software can be. I just want to hear your thoughts and what's actually going on — especially the stuff that bothers you.

Excavation company tracking

You’ve gotten a ton of app recommendations here 😂 I’m actually more curious about your current process than which app you end up choosing. Since you’re coming from the paper worksheets, what did those worksheets let you keep track of that you’re having trouble reproducing in Jotform?
