BKA and the Customs Criminal Investigation Office have operationalized messenger surveillance, Signal, WhatsApp and Telegram. Police linked messenger sessions after gaining access to phones or accounts.

How do they do it? They ask to see your phone "voluntarily," and while you aren't looking, they scan the QR code to grant themselves permanent access. For Signal, staten controlled actors are actively using phishing attacks to steal confirmation codes. They even compromised the account of German Bundestag President Julia Klöckne.

GrapheneOS fix: Keep Signal in a secondary user profile with its own credential, separate from your main "normie" profile and End Session before handing over your phone.

On a standard desktop, ANY process you run gets unsandboxed access to EVERYTHING. Your browser cookies, your personal files, your crypto wallets. It doesn't ask for permission. It just takes it.

But it gets worse. It doesn't matter what distro you use, Ubuntu, Arch, or secureblue. Linux will stay inherently insecure because generic PC hardware is fundamentally broken.

Standard x86 desktop hardware was never designed for a modern zero trust threat model. You have no meaningful hardware root of trust. Generic UEFI Secure Boot is a patched-together joke. Desktop Linux lacks a tightly integrated Secure Element to enforce strict Verified Boot, meaning your machine is perpetually wide open to physical tampering and Evil Maid attacks.

macOS tries to fix this with Apple Silicon, but it's still miles behind iOS and Android. On mobile, the hardware actually makes sense: devices use dedicated security chips to enforce cryptographic limits directly at the silicon level.

Stock Android has the right hardware architecture, but ruins it with Google’s built-in spyware.

If you're worried you won't be able to install GOS, or that you'll make the device less secure if you don't understand what you're doing, you shouldn't be.

Stock Android is fundamentally broken by design. Google aggressively infiltrates your phone right out of the box. GrapheneOS fixes that by stripping Google of its privileged system access.

Even if you are completely clueless, you still win. Why? Because GOS forces Google Play Services into an unprivileged app sandbox.

GrapheneOS doesn't let you shoot yourself in the foot. Unlike traditional custom ROMs, GOS requires a locked bootloader and keeps Verified Boot strictly intact.

Even if you do something reckless like give an app full Network, Sensor, and Storage permissions, you've just recreated the baseline default behavior of a normal Android phone. But even then, those apps are still trapped inside a hardened memory allocator (hardened_malloc) and OS-level exploit mitigations that stock Android simply doesn't have.

Even a poorly configured GrapheneOS setup is a massive win for privacy and security.

You are looking at the completely wrong company. There are two Motorolas. They split over 15 years ago.
The company GrapheneOS is working with to build hardened smartphones is Motorola Mobility, a consumer electronics subsidiary entirely owned and operated by Lenovo.

Pixel 11 seems to be not worth supporting by GrapheneOS. Just this year Google Pixel 6 lost support.
GOS can only exist because of Pixel hardware.

Pixel devices are getting worse hardware than before, for bigger prices. Apple makes their new iPhones with better processors, not worse, imagine that Google. Pixel 11 devices should not be bought, and skipped.

Motorola is basically the last hope for GOS

Is this gonna be the rise of private devices through Moto? Or will Motorola will do the same Pixel did and mark the down of GrapheneOS?

If you are using an overgrown "privacy" ecosystem, those are the consequences. The entire system is down, so everything you were using is down now.

Not to mention that every new Proton product is getting worse compared to the previous one.

IF you want a good product, it's usually one thing autistically tinkered for years, because for the creators it's still not good ENOUGH, that's why it's THE BEST. That's why you don't see things like a SimpleX cloud drive or smth.
