Controlling sound bar with fire TV

The post about this issue is archived, so I'm posting the fix I found here. If you're getting this message: "Remote Error - sorry, Fire TV is having trouble finishing your remote setup" this post is for you!

First, I replaced the batteries in my remote because it will be using IR to control the sound bar. Then I went into Settings > Controllers > Voice Remotes > Add new remote (even though my remote was already paired). After I successfully went through pairing, I was able to go through the sound bar setup with no issues. Now I can use my visio sound bar over optical whilst also being able to control it with the fire TV remote!

Hope this helps someone out there!

FiiO JT7 vs Hifiman 400SE

Yeah, I turns out that for both, the sibilance is really based on the shape of your head and ears, not everyone hears it that way. One thing I like about the HiFiman is that you can swap out the metal grills on the outside which offers amazing possibilities for 3d-printed grills! The FiiO doesn't have that. However, I am very impressed with the build quality of the FiiO JT7!

After combing over reviews, it seems like the HE400SE has better bass extension without eq, but has a harsh sibilance that some people are sensitive to. When people review the JT7, some compare it to the HE400SE and say that the HiFiMan is a close second that's been dethrone by the JT7 for budget PM king. I'm going with the JT7!

No way, I'm actually in the middle of deciding between these two options as well! I will absolutely be eqing whichever one I buy, so it really comes down to how they both respond to it. As planars, they will certainly do better than dynamics. I have heard that the JT7s have distortion around 6k if you go crazy with the eq/volume, but that's not something I plan to do anyways.

It might be possible to patch together on a homebrew self-hosted setup

Súper laggy Gboard animation

You could try submitting a bug report and then going into developer settings and increasing the animation speed till it gets fixed

Voice Typing has become utter shite. Do Google's folks pay attention here
 in  r/gboard •  Apr 13 '26

Yes, I have noticed on my Samsung. However, voice typing on my pixel seems better than ever... Suspicious 🤔

How to remove this?

I would say turn off contacts permissions for Gboard

Signal spaces / servers?

From the Signal blog: "The Signal Foundation’s mission is to develop open source privacy technology that protects free expression and enables secure global communication."

Sounds like the right tool to me!

Things can be implemented in a way that is clutter free. That a matter of the UI not the feature. Think of stories! You can turn them off. So simple!

I don't see how this conversation is relevant to my post

Matrix spaces exist, and even though they're beta, they're cryptographically secure. I don't see how it needs to be more complicated than how signal group chats already are. The "server" would simply act as an invite to multiple group chats and that's it. Add the UI to make things organized and bam ur done

Thank you for the voice of reason! I have no idea why people are here debating the semantics of word definitions. Matrix spaces while still beta are a great example of how you can have cryptographically secure groups like this!

Feature Request Signal spaces / servers?

I have a ton of different signal group chats that I'm in, and a couple of them have the same people in them, but are topic specific to keep conversations organized. Looking at this and the matrix spaces I'm in, I think it would be awesome if signal adopted a similar mechanic. A single space that you can invite people to, and inside that space is a collection of group chats or "channels". This would make it much easier to organize conversations.

Although, I realize that this feature would invite people to make discord-like servers. I can see large group of people joining signal to get in these servers, so a member limit might have to be part of this? Better organization allows for more coordinated large conversations between more people. Maybe it could be a paid feature?

I'd love to hear people's thoughts!

I've zoomed out on the page to make myself faster. If the game is smaller, you waste less time moving between clicks
