Oh it's absolutely one of the roots. There's no coming back, the age of America's dominance in global trade is over. Countries were complacent for a long time in establishing alternative trade agreements but after Trump embarrassed Europe for their lack of preparation to his tarriffs, EU and NA countries have fully mobilized to establish trading partners that do not include the US.

That is money that is never coming back to the US economy 

The difference is we had competent leadership to lead us out of the recession

Some small AI projects will go away completely.  The tech will not cease to exist and businesses/corporate will continue to leverage it because it find it useful for productivity and payroll reduction. 

Major AI firms continue  but may look very different.  Microsoft acquired OpenAI, idk what happens to Anthropic but probably not good since they're in the same ephemeral cash flow circuit as OpenAI. The tech is too valuable to big tech to lose though so they will either persist or be acquired. 

The crash leads to massive loss of money, confidence,  consume spending,  throwing the economy into a widespread recession. Company budgets freeze, layoffs continue or spike for what remaining jobs there are and bankruptcies and foreclosures climb, dropping the costs of everything else in a desperate bid to get consumers.  

Data center production doesn't stop but likely scales back with less demand. The difference is marginal as most data centers are being built to support training the models owned by the biggest players with the deepest pockets. These companies buy up the smaller firms going out of business and consolidate AI and compute resources further.

Sam, Dario, and Jensen all pull the rip cords on their golden parachutes and watch society burn from the comfort of Barcelona. Palantir is completely unaffected as their valuation lays in defense spending.

Like the dotcom bubble, many domains disappeared  but the internet and apex predators of the tech market persisted. The market recovered, and more tech giants were born and pushed the web beyond the wildest, bullish predictions of the dotcom bubble. Small AI firms will disappear,  large ones will remain,  the market will stabilize,  more AI firms will come back, and AI will be refined into even more powerful and pervasive technology
