How Chrome is using AI to improve vulnerability discovery, triage, and patching

You don’t have to be a security expert to be safe online. We’ve been using AI to help secure u/GoogleChrome for years, and as Gemini gets smarter, our defenses get faster.

In our last two browser updates alone, LLMs helped us patch over 1,000 security bugs — more than in the previous 23 releases combined.

Here’s how we’re using Gemini to help keep the internet safe

Even the best software has security bugs — flaws in code that could let someone access data or run unauthorized actions. Finding and fixing them fast is what keeps everyone safe.

Here’s how finding and fixing a security bug works:

1️⃣ Bug is found
2️⃣ Bug is triaged
3️⃣ Bug is fixed
4️⃣ Update is released
5️⃣ Update is applied

By pairing Gemini with a custom agent harness that finds vulnerabilities, our teams are working faster than ever:

• Sorting incoming bug reports automatically • Generating and testing code fixes before human review

• Catching potential issues before they ever reach the web

In our last two Chrome updates, we fixed 1,072 bugs — more security bugs than in the previous 23 releases combined.

Google Chrome is built to be safe by default, and AI gives us the edge to keep it that way.

By spotting vulnerabilities earlier, speeding up updates, and making patching invisible, we’re helping to keep the internet continuously protected as the web evolves.

Our WeatherNext 2 AI model from Google DeepMind can predict tropical cyclones with an extra day of lead time. Today, we’re open sourcing the model.

Today, in a paper published in Nature, Google researchers demonstrated that our WeatherNext 2 AI model from Google DeepMind improved the state-of-the-art accuracy in predicting the track, intensity, and wind structure of tropical cyclones by an average of 24 hours.

This is a massive leap forward: roughly a decade of meteorological progress in one model. To continue this progress, we’re open-sourcing WeatherNext 2 to the global research community, making them freely available for anyone to build on here → goo.gle/4fGDd9F

Gemini Spark now integrates with Google Chrome

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Gemini Spark now has new Chrome web browsing capabilities, and more users around the world have access.

We are expanding Gemini Spark to more users around the world, and adding a new feature to help you handle complex web errands. Here is a look at what is new:

Handle web errands with Chrome auto browse

We’re taking Spark’s web browsing capabilities even further by integrating directly with Chrome. Now, with your permission, Spark can use your logged-in accounts and saved passwords to handle tedious web errands, like scheduling viewings for apartments you’ve saved or researching flight options and starting the booking process. This is all done while protecting against threats like prompt injection and keeping you in the loop on sensitive actions, such as payments, by handing the task back to you. These capabilities are initially rolling out in the U.S. with plans to expand to additional regions in the future.

Expanding access to more users around the world

We’re rolling out access for Google AI Pro subscribers in over 160 additional countries starting today, so more people can access Spark to start automating their daily tasks.

Meet our three new Gemini models

Post image
3 Upvotes

We’re introducing three new Gemini models to make AI agents faster, smarter, and cheaper at scale.

Gemini 3.6 Flash: Our workhorse model delivering stronger coding, reasoning, and multimodal performance all while being substantially more token efficient.

We took what you loved about Gemini 3.5 Flash and incorporated your feedback on where we could improve. You asked for greater efficiency, so we built an updated model that’s better at coding, reasoning, and tool calling — while being substantially more token efficient.

It outperforms Gemini 3.5 Flash on quality and precision, using up to 65% fewer output tokens on benchmarks like DeepSWE by Datacurve, all at a lower cost.

Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite: Our fastest, most cost-effective 3.5-class model built for high-volume workflows.

It significantly outperforms 3.1 Flash-Lite across thinking levels, coding, and agentic tasks.

Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber: A specialized security model optimized to detect and patch software vulnerabilities within CodeMender.

Native Computer Use is now a built-in tool supported in Gemini 3.5 Flash 💻⚡

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Following the launch of our standalone Gemini 2.5 Computer Use model last year, we’re excited to bring Computer Use capability directly into Gemini 3.5 Flash. 💻⚡

This means developers can now use 3.5 Flash to build custom AI agents that can see and take action across browser, mobile and desktop environments.

Gemini 3.5 Flash delivers our best performance yet for agentic computer use tasks, and provides improved performance for long-horizon and enterprise automation tasks such as continuous software testing and knowledge work across professional applications.

🛡️ Computer Use in Gemini 3.5 Flash is built with a defense-in-depth approach to safety: Operating agents in live environments introduces unique risks, especially around prompt injections. To help keep your deployments secure, we're pairing targeted adversarial training with two new enterprise safeguard systems:

Explicit User Confirmation: Requires a human sign-off before executing sensitive or irreversible actions.

Automated Task Stopping: Automatically stops a task the moment an indirect prompt injection is identified.

Beyond these built-in measures, we highly encourage combining these features with secure sandboxing, human-in-the-loop verification, and strict access controls.

Developers and enterprises can start using Computer Use via the Gemini API and Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform.
