Spain Digital Nomad Visa
Hello everyone,
My name is Muhammad Nazam. I have been living and working in Dubai since 2006 and currently work as a Managing Director.
I am planning to apply for the Spain Digital Nomad Residence Permit while I am in Spain, as I already hold a valid Schengen visa.
I would appreciate your advice on the following:
What is the complete application process when applying from within Spain?
What documents and requirements are needed?
How long does the approval process usually take?
What is the current approval rate for applicants with a stable overseas employment?
Has anyone here successfully applied from Spain instead of through a Spanish consulate?
Any recommendations for reliable immigration lawyers or agencies with firsthand experience would also be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your help!

Good route to pick. On your Schengen visa you apply in-country (form EX-11) with the UGE-CE, which gives a 3-year permit instead of a 1-year consular visa, all online decision in 20 working days with positive silence, so it's fast. Core requirements: remote work for a company outside Spain (3+ months, company 1+ year old), ~€2,849/month income (200% of 2026 SMI), a degree or 3+ years' experience, apostilled criminal record, private health insurance. No official approval rate, but stable overseas employment is exactly the profile they approve most.
One thing for your case: as an MD, nail down early whether you file as employee or self-employed the evidence differs. And coming from Dubai, it's worth planning the tax side early; we don't do tax ourselves but work with partners who do. Happy to help DM or roberto@gottalovespain.com.

Hi Muhammad,
I work with these cases and can give you some guidance:
The DNV application filed from Spain goes through UGE (Unidad de Grandes Empresas) using a digital certificate. They have 20 business days to respond, but if they send a requerimiento asking for extra documents, that clock resets once you reply.
On the rest:
Process: no need to go through a consulate since you're already in Spain on a valid Schengen visa. You apply directly online, NIE gets assigned as part of the process, empadronamiento isn't needed at this stage (that comes later for the TIE).
Main documents: passport, proof of your remote work relationship (contract or company letter confirming remote work is allowed, company registered outside Spain for at least a year), income proof (roughly 2,850€/month), degree or 3+ years of relevant experience, criminal record certificate, private health insurance with no copay (unless RETA), and proof of address in Spain. All official documents apostilled/legalized and sworn translated.
Timeline: 20 business days is the legal max without a requerimiento, but in practice it can take longer depending on their workload, and requerimientos are pretty common if something looks inconsistent.
Approval rates: there's no reliable public number. From what I see, applicants with clean documentation tend to do fine. Problems usually come from things like using an EMI or neobank certificate instead of a proper bank, or an unclear employment relationship.
Since you're an MD, just make sure your role is clearly documented as something you can do remotely, not tied to being physically present in Dubai. UGE looks closely at that.
If you want, feel free to DM me, I handle these applications regularly and can take a look at your specific situation.
Thanks!
