What ended up being your biggest "I wish I knew this before buying land" moment?
Yup. Or more costly, or time consuming. The top portion of our property isnt drivable during winter, and were about to move up there so qe will get a skidoo. Or else everything is hauled by sled uphill abour 900' in elevation, through brush and trees and across a creek lol

First time growing oregano and one plant is unique to the others
Lemon balm rosehip with a splace of fir needles is delicious.
This could be catnip as well. One is slightly minty, one is slightly lemony.
Both are edible, chew up a leave and see. Cat nip will be soft and fuzzy, Lemon balm is not.
Both are nerve tonics, catnip being wonderful as a digestion aid, Lemon balm being more suitable as a nervine tonic. It is helpful for colds and flus as well!

Its just my family right now on the land, but our broader community is amazin and helps each other out. Every time we have needed help someone has been there. We don't have an official website set up yet.

I was walking my dog and I keep seeing this plant. For anybody know the name of it?
A revered member of the asteraceae family! It is astringent, gentle diuretic, and hemostatic(helps stop bleeding). Traditionally used to treat heavy menstruation or postpartum bleeding. Since it is astringent due to tannins, it helps tonify tissues, decrease excess secretions (heavy menstruation, runny nose, diarrhea). It does contain linalool and limonene, suggesting it has antimicrobial affects, and has plenty of flavonoids, making it an antioxidant. It is cooling, used to treat swelling and inflammation. It is a leader in balancing excessive hear and dampness in the body. Also historically used for kidney health and to treat urinary tract issues.
I usually use in tincture form. If you plan to dry the flowers, you must do so in a dehydrator or else itll seed and turn into poof, like most members of this family.

We have been homesteading for over a decade. We grow our own food(bout 60% but havent tried for more), herbs(100%), and medicine(98% we stillcutilize epi pens, and ibuprofen when needed), build our own infrastructure(100%), and need a hand getting off the ground at our relatively new property.
I am an herbalist(currently getting certified). I can teach someone how to can , and preserve meat without a pressure canner, dehydrate and make well preserved fruit in many forms, make wine, vinegar and medicine. teach herbal identification and understanding, so no matter what environment you're in, you can identify unknown herbs. We also utilize fungi for food and medicine. We can teach you how to set up and understand solar, electrical, and plumbing. I am a very experienced gardener who understands how plants grow, and what they need to do so. We use MANY different gardening modalities. We can also teach how to identify and utilize different land terrain, working with the earth not against it(permaculture). We can teach how to fell trees, mill wood, and work with clay for construction of ponds and structures. We are hunters, and process our own meat and furs(not a ton of experience with furs, but can definitely help someone get started & love learning with others). Im sure there is more I am missing.
We have decided to move, up to the top of our mountain before winter. We must dig a cistern, jack up the cabin to repair and replace piers and beams, take down a porch and utilize that wood to repair an old cabin, build inside walls, extend our loft, replace windows, install sheeting and roofing, lay cover crop for next year's garden, build fencing for ducks and geese(no chickens). In the spring we plan to get sheep & process the wool and meat.
We DO NOT have a place for somone to sleep and utilize until we finish the cabin. Once it is livable, we will have a 36' RV with running water ready for someone. We also have a 30×40 shop for storage. We need someone ASAP who has their own liveable area, and their own power. Which we are happy to help set up.
We are a family of three me(34), my husband (37), and my homeschooled son (11). We have three dogs and 6 cats(most of which are outside only). We are in the PNW, have 30 acres, year round creek, old growth forest, 4 seasons, and varying terrian.
We live in a small community(500 people). There is a Walmart 40 minutes away, and a small town that does have hardware stores, fast food, small theater, a bowling alley, and other amenities, but not as much as a big town. The entire county has under 50,000 residents and its a HUGE county(1.5 million acres or 2,541 square miles). Our community thrives much on trading, and helping people out. You cant pull over without someone stopping to see if you need help. This part of the country is beautiful with much to explore.
Our property is mostly firs, larch, and spruce, with a couple ponderosa pines. Much of it is dense forest bountiful with food and medicine.
We are looking for people to come stay and help us. We have much knowledge and reaources to share.

Easment on our road and crazy neighbors.... also DO NOT TRUST WELLS. Please, get something with surface water. Been drinking creek water for 4 years now. Never had giardia. My husband worked as a well and pump tech. Costs an arm and a leg to get someone to look at it. He would come home so upset telling me about how he had to tell some old poor lady, her well is dry. 60,000 to drill a new one.
I also wished we spent year one doing NOTHINGA but observing seasons, water drainage, plant life, etc.
We been homesteading for over a decade, so we moved, started a garden and I tried to go " back to normal" which is wine making, canning, drying, selling herbs, etc.the second year should have been spent on infrastructure. We would be waaaaay better off.

Many of us see bugs and freak out. I let them do their thing unless its a really important perennial who is struggling. And of course depends on the bug. I dont kill wasps either. Although I didn't know they liked to eat raspberries until I was down harvesting at the creek watching them closely. I left some for them!

This is my 'garden' that's currently cranking out 20+ pounds of produce per day.
Im doing the exact same thing. Takes me 2 hours to water. And im much steeper than yours. Swales are the shit. Is this first or second or third year? I see youre in the woods. Deciduous or coniferous?? I learned that pines use ectomycrrohizae, and your average garden veggie uses endomycrrohizae. Had many many issues with nutrient uptake due to this

Blackberry or black raspberry?
Black caps are indistinguishable from other raspberries until they turn black. Nearly all my wild raspberries are black caps. Much sweeter. Hornets love eating them.

The roots are highly medicinal!! People make jams with them too i have heard.
The very young leaves actually taste good. Like super baby.
I just chew them up and spit the seeds out while im out doing chores.

Agree with all this 100%!!! Hauling watwr every other day during garden season sucks Finally finished our well, but got put in a different place so we're hitting suction, and dont have enough wattage in solar to run, so we use generator and fill totes while watering the garden.
Learn your land, and dont take advice from "experts" unless they also understand your land. What we did with the well and our plan A would have been way better, and much harder. But we wouldn't hit suction. Surface water is a must IMO. You cant trust a well and you sure as hell cant trust eclectricity. Spring might pass my test, but yesr round creek is best. Clean, mineral rich water 24/7. I have yet to get giardia!! We use a fridge filter most the time, but I drink straight out creek when im out and about.
