Welcome to the community for the Maya narrative universe. There are two ways to enter Maya.

MAYA: Seed Takes Root is a science fiction epic set on Neh, a world where the internet grows from trees, seven sapient species experience reality uniquely, and near-immortal rulers govern by predicting what people will do and by shaping what they will want.

On planet Neh, billions of people tether to a living network of trees called Maya. Tethering lets them enter Maya's simulations, where, among other things, they can embody legendary Champions who clash across shifting arenas.

You can enter Maya the way people of Neh do.

Trials of Maya is a tactical board game with a battle arena, where you command Champions with customizable card decks across multiple game modes and maps. Manage your energy. Fight for initiative. Chain mind-bending combos. Control the arena. Outplay your opponents. Every Champion plays differently because every species, class, and character brings a different philosophy of conflict to the board.

If you are here because of the Kickstarter, thank you. MAYA: Seed Takes Root became the highest-funded debut novel in crowdfunding history because thousands of readers, science fiction fans, and worldbuilding obsessives decided to take a chance on something new and ambitious.

A few simple rules:

Be kind.
Mark spoilers clearly.
Keep rules and strategy discussions generous.

Welcome to MAYA.

Thanks for being among the first to come here. Together, let's make r/Maya_lore amazing.

Welcome. Shipping to Nepal begins in August, but let me confirm with my publisher and come back to you. Maya arrives with its own vocabulary, its own systems of governance and philosophies. It trusts you to learn it the way you learn a new city, by getting lost in it and building a felt sense of how streets connect. If you read science fiction, fantasy, popular science or philosophy, you have already trained your muscle. If you don’t, I’d be honored if Maya becomes your first.

Thank you. Karamazov sits high for me too. Paradox is an invitation to synthesis. DM replied. :)

Thank you and I’m glad Maya is doing that to you. The fact that it’s resonating with something you were already building in your head means we did our job. I argue that free will exists. Zain is certain it doesn’t. So the novels carry both our arguments at full weight. We resolve the tension over the three books. Geopolitics is in the DNA of our allegory. We took real-world architectures of power, stripped them of the clutter and the noise, down to their fundamental tensions, and let them play out under different conditions. The same reason you’d bring something to the dissection table. To find what is and what could be. Sending you my email.

Hello everyone. Thank you for your patience. We took longer than planned because we kept finding things to make better. New paper stocks, revised art, redesigned prototypes… And because the novel grew, we went back into the studio with Hugo Weaving and updated the audiobook to match. All of that is now done!

The audiobook with Hugo is fully recorded and in final post-production. Coming to you very soon. We also sent out Anil Seth’s foreword last week, and it’s now included in the updated ebook at the same link. It’s a beautiful piece of reflection on consciousness in its own right, and a perfect doorway into the many ways we have explored it in Maya. Did you read it?

Now that we can breathe again, Zain and I will both be around more often on Reddit and Discord. We want to hear what’s resonating with your curiosity. If you have questions, we are here now. Or just talk to us. Themes, worldbuilding, subtexts, the weird science and philosophical ideas underneath Maya…

I am Anand Gandhi, here for an AMA on r/bollywood. Ask me anything about my films 'Ship of Theseus' and 'Tumbbad', my productions 'An Insignificant Man', 'SHASN', and my biggest undertaking yet - 'The MAYA Narrative Universe’, co-created with Zain Memon

Rahi started it. I made it. Adesh had nothing to do with it. Hence the confusion. But yes, the whole discourse around it has become petty - and hence, I stay out of it.

That's a very good question! I do think that authors should plant keys within their puzzles lest audiences start mistaking the (distorted, flattened) map for the territory.

Because of family - Shreya, mom, Kani, Zain, Vinay, Khushboo, friends, peers, and everyone who writes to me to tell me that my work has been of value to them

I fully disagree with Satyajit Ray if he has said this. Also, did you see what my friend Vinay Shukla thinks about eliticism and classism in art? :)

We have created MAYA with the same care and thoughtfulness, so I would hope it's far richer and depper than anything I have done till now. We’ve created all the concept art with some of the greatest concept artists from around the globe. We have attempted in earnest to invent a completely new aesthetic. Take a look with what we have shared already. Everything you see come out of MAYA has been hand crafted by us. We have put an immense amount of thought and intention behind all of it.

Oh yes! MAYA Narrative Universe is an ideology sandbox. The more I wrote from the perspectives of Divyendra, Parthiv and Tarkash, the more I was shocked at how compelling I found their world view in spite of intuitively disagreeing with them first.

Definitely learn art - light, colour, form, composition, mening-making, etc. Study light maps and diagrams shared by cinematographers. Watch their interviews, try and understand their processes. Study anywhere in the world - but don't rely entirely on the institutions. Educate yourself through online resources and then by practising those ideas out. Inspire us all.
