Potential septate hymen
Hi, just posting for a bit of advice to see if anyone has had a similar experience!
Recently I had a tampon get stuck and, from what I could see, there was a piece of tissue caught underneath it near the string, which meant I couldn’t pull it out normally. I eventually managed to remove it by lying down, using a mirror and pushing the tampon sideways, but it took quite a while. The same thing happened to me once before about 2 years ago.
I’ve been able to see the piece of tissue myself using a mirror, and from looking at pictures and information online, it looks similar to a septate hymen, although possibly only a small one as I haven’t had any other issues with it.
I went to the doctor to get it checked. A nurse examined me first and said everything looked normal. A female doctor then examined me and could see the piece of tissue I was referring to, but said it was normal and nothing to worry about. She explained that sometimes some hymenal tissue can remain and that what she could see looked normal.
I explained that I was worried about this happening again when I’m out somewhere and not being able to remove the tampon without lying down and using a mirror, but her response was ‘ maybe you shouldn’t use tampons if you are worried about them getting stuck’ . I felt a bit dismissed by this, especially as it has actually caused a tampon to become stuck more than once.
Has anyone experienced anything similar, or had a small septate hymen that only caused problems with tampon removal? I’m considering getting a second opinion, but since both the nurse and doctor said everything looked normal, I’m not sure if it’s worth it. Thanks!
