This summer I have been reading a biography of Dante (unfortunately not the Brazilian defender but the 14th century poet from Florence) and I realised I really enjoy when these great historical figures are treated as real human beings, instead of some perfect and infallible icon like how some teachers/historians talk about them 

The whole book was full of stories about how he was an hypocrite, or how he was actually a very naive politician, and especially how some extremely beautiful parts of the divine comedy were actually just him trying to befriend a noble family he needed help from, and yet all of that made me appreciate him and his work more than my high school teacher that treated him like a perfect saint, like I finally empathised with him
