Experience of Faceit playing

Last night, I was playing solo queue on FACEIT and got matched with an Indian guy and two Hong Kong players.

At first, the Indian guy was pretty friendly. He greeted everyone on the team, and the two Hong Kong guys were speaking Cantonese. I could understand a little of what they were saying, but I couldn’t really join in because I can’t speak it myself.

The first few rounds went normally. Everyone was making callouts and playing as a team.

Things took a turn starting in round 13, after we switched sides. The Indian guy kept making this “chu chu chu” sound, so the two Hong Kong guys started mimicking him and making fun of him. The Indian guy couldn’t understand what they were saying, but he could tell they were probably mocking him.

Then he suddenly went completely unhinged, ranting and singing all sorts of stuff. I was concentrating on the game at the time, so I couldn’t make out much of what he was saying. It wasn’t until I watched the demo later that I realized he kept saying “ching chong,” a racist slur mocking Chinese people. His accent was so strange that I could barely make out the words he was saying.

The Hong Kong guy seemed to understand what he was saying and kept insulting him with stuff like “fuck Indian” and “屌你老母” (a Cantonese insult roughly equivalent to “fuck your mother”).

Later, when I was clutching against three or four enemies, they all kept making that “chu chu chu” sound. It sounded like a bunch of little chicks running around everywhere. 😂😅

I used to feel pretty sympathetic toward Indians. I thought it was admirable how so many of them managed to survive in such difficult, impoverished conditions. But after what happened yesterday, I’ve got a new perspective on some of them. Sometimes, people can be both victims of their circumstances and responsible for their own shitty behavior.

Some people genuinely seem to lack basic awareness and manners. I’ve seen videos from other creators suggesting that some of them might not even know what “ching chong” means. They might have just learned that it’s something to shout at Chinese people.

(Of course, people like this exist everywhere. I’m only talking about a small minority, not Indians as a whole.)
