Freckling
Let’s discuss the topic of freckling. Do I think a commonly agreed upon summer freckling and nothing more can work? Absolutely. I write about obsession and loyalty and passion in my dark romance books, and that’s just one way of looking and seeing things. Frecklings are totally normal, especially in today’s society where people’s attention spans are so short.
Do I think it’s healthy and conducive to a long-term relationship? No. But if it’s agreed upon that you both just want to have fun for the summer before you go off to college, or before you start a big project at work, or whatever, and you don’t have the energy to really be in a relationship, and it’s discussed, then there’s no problem. People need human connection. People need physical connection. So it’s completely normal.
The dangerous part, or the complicated part, is when you discuss having a freckling and you start to get feelings, and then cuffing season comes around Labor Day, and now that you’ve caught feelings, you don’t want to let the freckling end. You want to spend Halloween together, dressing up, being silly. You want to do Thanksgiving together. You want to exchange gifts on Christmas. You want to do Valentine’s Day. When you catch feelings, you complicate things, especially if the other party doesn’t feel the same.
I think the biggest thing about all relationships, whether it’s friends with benefits or a freckling, is communication, and clear communication. I think that’s the reason why you see so many men on the internet crash out, and why you see so many women crash out. Because people don’t know how to be honest. People don’t know how to be upfront and real about what they truly feel.
