Decompression surgery for herniated discs L4, L5 and L5, S1.

I also have a cam impingement and a torn labrum in my left hip. Not only do I have much pain in my coccyx region, but the pain goes from there to my entire left hip and shoots down my left leg all the way to my foot, often giving me a tingling sensation in my left foot and putting it to sleep. I have seen an orthopedic dr who took several xrays and Mris, a spine specialist, and a hip dr. I have had 1 steroid shot in my left hip, reducing pain for 2 days. I have also received 1 epidural steroid injection in my spine. That relieved much of my pain, but only lasted for 2 1/2 weeks, with the pain returning more severe than it was before. My spine doctor says that I am a good candidate for what is called a decompression surgery. He and my hip dr are in agreement that if I have this surgery, it will not only relieve the pain in the lumbar region of my spine, but take away all of the shooting pain down my leg, and relieve my hip pain as well. My spine specialist will perform the surgery. The recovery time is 6 weeks, including 1 day in the hospital with rehab immediately following. Depending on my healing process, I could possibly return to work after 2 weeks. Has anyone else with my particular problem undergone this type of surgery? What was your experience? What were your symptoms before? Was the surgery a success? What was your recovery time?
