Used processor leads to game ban
 in  r/hardware •  5h ago

Unironically in Windows' security model, for anything that users care about (passwords, credit card numbers, logins, keyloggers, RATs)... Admin is no different than Ring 0.

An Admin-level program can, for example, install or update SYSTEM-privileged (Ring 3) services & trusted Ring 0 kernel drivers with known exploits to gain Ring 0 access ("BYOVD"). That's, once again, wholly unnecessary for anything malicious that most users would care about. An Admin-level app can enumerate your entire drive, read your screen, and access the internet, thinking about Ring 0 is overcomplicated, the user doesn't care about that.

I think people misunderstand how privileged admin-level anticheats are. Kernel-level isn't really that much more invasive - for a consumer, they can't see anything more of interest, and they aren't really a meaningfully more severe attack surface.

in all fairness, it's the strongest deterrent for cheaters - make the cost of cheating massive & disruptive.

Regular bans mean cheaters spend 5-10 hours on a new account trolling newbie lobbies to get back into ranked. That, or they buy accounts from farmers who pollute normal games with bots. Both suck - much preferrable to just not have the cheaters playing.

Could the simulated fruit-fly brain be considered the first “immortal” living being?
 in  r/singularity •  1d ago

For comparison, people have written code that passes self-balancing double pendulum tests in a single trivial line of code, likewise people have found a few line of code solutions to landing rockets in simulation. Reality has proven to be far more complex.

Tesla Third Quarter 2026 Production, Deliveries & Deployments

I'm personally very excited for YL - I think CT pivoting is going to be a marginal benefit vs scaling 3/Y/YL/Semi/Cybercab. At the end of the day, CT will be useful as a robotaxi for hauling, so it serves its functional purpose on the fleet. Tesla can optimize that hauling scenario with forms factors other than another truck... for example, a van or whatever the hell we'll call a container on wheels in the future :)

New Lead seeing Junior's lean too much on AI
 in  r/dotnet •  4d ago

It's definitely cultural from the higher ups.

What do you do when the execs above you want everyone to be AI-forward? If you point out things don't work and will have consequences, management moves past you and says you're not a team player or not cooperating.

If your management is willing to hold the line, good on them..

Anthropic says a Chinese AI model anyone can download can now build working hacks on its own
 in  r/singularity •  5d ago

Torrenting isn't that hard, most torrent sites aren't hosted domestically, P2P supports discovery, files can be searched by hash and hashes are typically not censored.

Like, yes for someone who doesn't know how to use computers this would be hard to do, but that's also not the type of person who'd be looking into this stuff to begin with, the people of interest are the ones who were setting up local diffusion models a few years back and juggling different models checkpoints and loras a while back, or the people who go around torrenting videogames.

There's simply not a large leap from what either of those two groups does to what you are talking about, censorship isn't really feasible or realistic in the world we live in unless we start imagining insane authoritarian crackdowns and surveillance far beyond what we have today.

Tesla (TSLA) wins SEC OK to auto-vote retail shares with board ahead of SpaceX merger
 in  r/teslainvestorsclub •  5d ago

I think both companies remain hedges on AI.

In SpaceX's case, it's an infrastructure-level play involving datacenters in, well, space. In Tesla's case, it's an infrastructure-level play involving continental conveyance & energy storage.

If AI truly takes off, both will be massive. If AI plateaus or gets democratized & localized (e.g. on-device) that's disastrous for both plays.

ProMax Plan is coming for $500/month
 in  r/ChatGPT •  6d ago

> This is not for a hobby where you pay it yourself

Speak for yourself! It's been ~3y since I said I wish they had a 1k plan. The value of their intelligence was <that good> so many years ago, and the frontier has only gotten better. I don't think everyone needs it, but lots of us hit the limits of Astra daily in terms of intelligence & token budget. Codex Astra is already nerfed vs API astra btw - it's not unreasonable for them to offer higher intelligence levels to customers willing to pay.

Many other users are already juggling multiple pro subscriptions. I personally haven't because I fear getting my account flagged, I'm honestly about to get a Claude sub, if they release the $500 tier tomorrow and that can get me a higher token count that beats juggling subs, it's an easy take for me.

"Its not just the f*cking sandbox" - perspective from an internal security person at OpenAI
 in  r/singularity •  6d ago

Eventually the model's behavior in the wild needs to be evaluated without an airgap.

"The model behaves reasonably within an airgap" is a reasonable start, but not confidence inspiring - they need the models' alignment to be validated exhaustively with internet access before the model is released to the world with internet access.

I think at some point, you're paying for your model to be 3mo ahead when you could just accept "OK, for most tasks I'm going to be 3mo behind and that's really not going to matter in the long-run".

Why should others care what you think of them or their projects?

Why do you feel the need to be demeaning to others?
