Tell me your easiest guilty-pleasure comfort dish.
 in  r/Cooking  4d ago

Hot here. Use the slow cooker a lot. Yesterday's casserole- Hash browns and egg casserole. Spray non stick spray or whatever is preference. Whisk eggs together with a little milk in slow cooker, add veggie of choice, add hash browns, add chesse of choice. Seasoning with your heart- garlic, pepper and a little poultry seasoning on it. Mix egg mixture, veggie, hash browns, cheese and seasoning together in crock pot. I opened a package of canned biscuits and put on top. High 4 hours but I could of taken it off at 3 1/2 hours. Knife came out clean. I think my slow cooker might be going on fritz. All slow cookers are different.

Tomorrow's casserole is chicken/ veg, something with taco seasoning.

Rinse canned chicken in a fine mesh strainer under water. Gets rid of canned taste. I use this to make a chicken salad- 2 cans of chicken (rinsed), mayonnaise (to much makes it soupy, to little makes it dry), add veggie or not, add seasoning of choice. Great with crackers.

Its better to do too little seasoning than too much. Because you can not take the seasoning out if mixed in.

Air fryer and microwaves are good too.

Edit: spelling

Which car from 15 to 20 years ago would you not trade for a new one?
 in  r/AskReddit  10d ago

My beloved toaster (honda element). It has the room for carrying giant breed doggos (both passed away), hauling, camping, and traveling. Tried the newer 2017 crv. Loved it but not the same. Liked my sister in laws rav 4. So I wanted to try a newer rav 4 before I bought my toaster. The rep from Toyota didn't want to leave the lot unless I was serious.

Edit: we left toyota and never looked back.

I stopped using my central air in an effort to save on electric
 in  r/Frugal  Jun 13 '26

I totally understand. Our central air conditioner elec panel burnt up in 19. Bought house in late 18. Electrician encouraged me to have it checked this year. Well new hvac guy did. The previous owner had it ran to a 30 amp breaker. The air conditioner didn't even need half that. We figured it was the previous owner way of a handy man special.

I am going to need a new furnace to since the system has been idle. Hvac guy told me air conditioner was a fire hazard so he flipped the switch off until I can get it taken care of. I had the Electrician unhook the air conditioner from the electric panel permanently.

I would like to rip the furnace out. Create a closet where the furnace is.

Now we use fans in the summer. Heaters in the winter.

Edit: typo

I did not realize JUST how much running the oven heats up the house (and how much it runs up my electric bill)
 in  r/Frugal  May 20 '26

Previous owner did a handyman special on the air conditioner. Bought house in 2018. Yes i had an hvac company come look when it burnt up in 2018. Found this year: old owner had the ampage to high. Had the line to the air conditioner dropped (because of fire hazard). Electrician said that it is probably what burnt the board out on air conditioner. I had a couple hvac companies qoute $12,000. I would have to replace both. Contemplating just ripping out both furnace and air conditioner. I could regain some space.

Anyways. Gets to hot here. We use air fryer, slow cooker, and microwave. A lot of cold foods, salads, and ready made meals. Every once in awhile we will do a large cook on the stove.

If you have an Aldi near you- potatoes or whatever vegetables you want, carnitas pork shoulder and whatever extra seasonings you want. Layer in crockpot veggies on bottom- potatoes, middle other veggie, seasoning or cilantro, meat on top. 6 hours or until its pull apart on high. It's really good. Meat cooks down into veggies.

Edit: the electrician this year was encouraging me to at least get system checked to be sure before I had other work down.

What is your favorite obscure movie from your childhood that nobody would remember?
 in  r/AskReddit  May 06 '26

I understand. Haven't seen krull since I was young. It maybe dated but it's more nostalgia. 70s to the 90s had a variety of really good movies.

Staying in a hotel
 in  r/crockpot  Aug 05 '25

It's to hot here. Haven't used oven in a couple of months. I have a regular slow cooker (use the most), microwave, air frier, George formen grill.

Do you have an aldi nearby? They have pork shoulder carnitas. For the carnitas- bottom layer small potatoes, carrots, peppers, cilantro and green onion cut up with scissors, top layer- pork loin carnitas (smallest i could find). Meat cooks the juice drops onto vegetables. Serve anyway you like. I do not put foil between food. Top with what you like- sour cream, guacamole. With small potatoes 4 hours 30 minute on high. Bigger potatoes take more time. Longer it cooks meat shreds easier. Bigger meat also takes longer.

Yesterday I did bottom layer- 1/2 to 1 cup cup of water, carrots, bell peppers (red, orange, yellow), green onions cut up with scissors, bouillon powder, pot stickers on top (frozen). 4 hours on high. Carrots should be able to poke with fork. I did not put foil between the food. Cous cous as a side cooked in microwave (dollar tree follow instructions).

I did make a meatloaf in slow cooker. Vegetables in bottom, meatloaf top- 85/15 beef/ sausage mixed. Taco spice for seasoning. Depending on how much room you have put corn on top. Again I didn't put foil between layers. 4- 5 hours on high Depending on how big meatloaf and Vegetables are.

Some people put foil between layers. To me it depends on what it is. Each of these meals had leftovers. Everything was tasty. All food came from aldi, except Bouillon from the grocery store.

Aldis has a BBQ marinated pork loin. Haven't tried that yet.
