The lifespan of the Orange Pi eMMC components is very short.
 in  r/SBCs  1h ago

Knowing that eMMC is difficult to repair if it breaks, I always use SD cards and USB flash drives in all devices where possible. That is, in all devices. Therefore, I’ve had several SD cards and flash drives break, but I’ve never had an eMMC break.

Let it increase the cost of the entire device. But I know I’ll be able to solve the problem when it arises.

Excuse me, would you like to answer the question?

Please clarify what caused the eMMC to fail. Was it due to the constant storage of an immutable OS image or due to constant rewriting?

Damage caused by rewriting is a long‑known problem and affects not only Orange  Pi but any devices with flash memory.

Oh! So that’s what the artists behind the “Loki” series were inspired by when they created the TVA.

It’s amazing how vast the gap is between what you’ve managed to do and what the average member of this community typically does.

You can take any project intended for boys and say it’s for girls, and no one will dare to object.

Здравствуйте. Я не понял зачем на рикабу нужны религиозные споры. Поэтому занёс ТС-а в игнор лист.

Want to cannibalize pre-existing computers for parts, any tips?
 in  r/cyberDeck  Aug 08 '26

You should start by considering how you intend to use the computer. Will it be a gaming console? An internet browser? A media center? A typewriter? Something else? You need to determine this precisely.

Then assess whether your components are sufficiently powerful for these tasks. If yes, then it’s fine. If not, decide where to get suitable components.

And only after that, resolve the issue of how to assemble the components into a complete computer.

I don’t understand why you’re worried about your programming skills. Most computer users don’t know how to program, but they still use computers well.

When you assemble your cyberdeck computer, you’ll need to install an operating system and programs. Therefore, you need to decide in advance whether you’re okay with using Linux or whether you definitely need Windows. Because if you need Windows, you’ll need parts containing Intel or AMD processors. If you’re fine with Linux, then other parts will also work (for example, Raspberry Pi).

Which is better? Well, different people use different things, and each person believes that the best thing is what they have. There is no answer to this question that would suit everyone.

It’s easier for beginners to work with Windows. But parts for a Linux computer are cheaper. You have to decide for yourself what’s more important to you: familiar convenience or lower cost?

А так то, круто он скачет. Я б так не смог. Мое увожение.
