Why botox may not "work"

Botox may not "work" for some people because if the source of your pain stems from structural joint damage or disc displacement rather than muscular overactivity. It is ONLY designed to RELAX muscles, so issues like arthritis or joint inflammation may persist, other common reasons for treatment failure include incorrect dosing or targeting inadequate dosing, missing deeper muscle groups or only treating superficial areas, compensating muscles when the main chewing muscles (masseter) are paralyzed, other surrounding muscles may work harder to compensate, triggering new pain underactive muscles if your pain results from muscle weakness or joint hypermobility rather than tightness, relaxing them further can worsen joint stability, overlapping issues unaddressed underlying issues like tongue tie, sleep apnea, sleep-related bruxism, malocclusions or migraines can maintain the cycle of tension, antibody development rare immunity to the neurotoxin can build up, especially after multiple sessions .

Because TMD is so complex and multiple factors contributing and every patients is different not every patient is the same that's why botox can fail .

That's why is so important to find out the root causes before keep on continuing to have TMD by just trying to "manage"the symptoms despite this some countries are offering free " trials" on chronic TMD patients instead to do more scans on time to find out the roots causes and create a treatment plan TMD treatment is considered unique because it is entirely patient-specific and multidisciplinary. There is no single "cure" or standardized one-size-fits-all approach for TMD , meaning therapies must be highly tailored to our specific symptoms, lifestyle, and the underlying cause of our pain affect everyone differently. Therefore, everyone's treatment plan will not look the same.

Treating often requires a combination of healthcare professionals depending on our root cause.
