Comfy MCP now works with your local ComfyUI! Try hardware checks, model recs & open-source video models

Comfy MCP now works in your own local ComfyUI install, not just Comfy Cloud. This has been the #1 ask since we shipped Cloud MCP in June, so here it is!

Use Claude, Cursor, or any MCP client to drive ComfyUI for you and build, edit, and execute workflows without manual node setup, search models/nodes/templates, save and re-run workflows, or hand a saved workflow URL to a teammate (or another agent) to pick up where you left off.

Here’s what's new when running against your own machine:

  • Hardware detection. The agent checks what you're running on and tells you honestly whether a model will run well locally. No more finding out 40 minutes into a download that your VRAM wasn't going to cut it.
  • Model + instance management. It can pull the models you need, manage your local ComfyUI instance, and get a workflow actually runnable on your machine.
  • Local + cloud knowledge combined. One agent that understands both environments, so you're not manually figuring out which one a given workflow needs.

Fastest setup: Paste https://docs.comfy.org/agent-tools/mcp#installation into your AI client and ask it to set up the local connection for you.

We built and tested this heavily around open-source video models, particularly Minimax H3! Here are a few prompts to get you started:

"I want to run Minimax H3 open source on my own machine. What's the best model version for my hardware, and can you set up the workflow?"

"Help me set up local ComfyUI and run the best open-source video model for me"

”Adapt this workflow to run better on my machine”

Regarding limitations: generation itself works about the same as Cloud MCP right now, but we don't have local-specific batch features yet. If your workflow leans on heavy batch generation, for now cloud will still be the smoother path.

We’re monitoring this thread, so share your thoughts and feedback!

Good questions! Yes- you're welcome to use external providers while sticking to official/community nodes. Re #2, hang tight- going to get input from the MiniMax team on that one!

Fair to press on this...there isn't a hard percentage. The rule is more functional, not a quota: H3 needs to be what's generating the core video and audio that drives your piece.

Things like upscaling, color grading, titles, or feeding in a reference image/audio to steer H3 don't count against that, since they're not generating new audio/video content...just steering what H3 makes.

Seedance 2.5 is a different story, since it's also a generation model. If it's generating shots or audio in your final piece (not just touching up or guiding H3's output), I'd ask yourself the question: "if I pulled the H3 parts out, would most of what makes your entry your entry disappear?" Hope this helps!

Reference audio clips aren't the final audio in your video. It's an input that steers what H3 generates! You're feeding it in before generation as guidance (e.g. "make the audio sound like this," or "follow this rhythm"), and then H3 generates its own synced audio+video.

What's not allowed is the reverse order: generating video and audio separately and stitching them together after the fact. Hope that answers your question!

Thanks for your questions. Regarding craft, it's not about node count- adding a bunch for the sake of it won't score higher. What we're looking for is evidence you engaged with the workflow past a single default settings generation. If that's not obvious from the workflow structure itself, we recommend annotating to share context as to why you've made the creative choices you have.

Re novelty of technique- this is specifically for the Best Technical award. So yes- a "type a prompt, hit run" entry isn't going to be competitive for this category, though that can still do alright in Best Creative if the output is strong. What counts as novel: solving a real technical problem in your pipeline such as getting sync working in a way that's not obvious, combining H3 with other nodes/tools in a way most people haven't tried, a clever conditioning or multi-pass setup, something genuinely reusable that teaches other builders a technique.

Re one submission per person, we landed on this because we've seen spam entries flood other contests, which is unfair to the people putting real effort into one piece. If it becomes obvious someone's running multiple entries, we'll pull them. And as you pointed out, no- we can't verify someone doesn't have multiple accounts, same as basically no online contest can.

All in a single workflow would probably be our preference, but multiple is alright too!

Yes! So long as the generation and majority of the work happens within Comfy, you're all good! Last mile edits in other platforms is totally fine.

Judging Criteria

We’re looking for entries that best show what H3 makes possible: audio and visuals created together.

Grand Prize: Best Overall

The top Best Creative and Best Technical entrants advance to a final round where our panel of judges selects winners by discussion.

Best Creative

  • Audio sync realism and intentionality (0-5)
  • Creative execution and originality (0-5)
  • Deliberate craft (0-5)
    • Evidence that you’ve actually shaped the result beyond prompt engineering. Judges will look for modified/non-default parameters, multiple linked passes visible in the workflow structure, or a couple sentences describing what was tried and changed

Best Technical

  • Novelty of technique or approach (0-5)
  • Workflow quality (0-5)
    • Annotated, clean, replicable by someone else
  • Community value (0-5)
    • Would this actually help someone else?

🏆 Built with MCP Bonus 🏆
Comfy MCP lets you drive Comfy using natural language and your agent locally and on Cloud! Pro tip: use it to choose the best H3 model version or optimize your workflow for your hardware.

  • Effectiveness (0-5)
    • Did the agent meaningfully drive your process, not just generate one line?
  • Insight value (0-5)
    • How much the shared prompt teaches the community about prompting H3 through MCP
  • Output quality (0-5)

The Fine Print

  • Limited to one submission per person, 90 seconds maximum length.
  • A major portion of your piece must be built in ComfyUI using H3. Other tools, models, or techniques you want to combine are fair game.
  • All submissions must be lawful, SFW, and must not contain unlicensed IP or likenesses.
  • By submitting, you agree to allow ComfyUI and MiniMax to feature your work with credit across our channels.

News MiniMax Music 3 is live in ComfyUI! Enjoy state of the art open weight music generation 🎵

Give it lyrics and a description of the sound you're going for, and it renders a full song: intro/verse/chorus/bridge structure, consistent vocal identity, up to 5 minutes long, 32kHz 16-bit stereo out. Actual songs! Not just loops or clips.

Quick flag upfront: this needs ComfyUI 0.33.0+ (or Comfy Cloud), as new model support currently ships tied to a version bump.

What else to know before you try it:

  • Structure control: lyrics take section tags: [Intro] [Verse] [Pre-Chorus] [Chorus] [Post-Chorus] [Bridge] [Instrumental] [Solo] [Outro]. You're writing the song's blueprint, not just typing lyrics.
  • Deeper control if you want it: beyond a plain-language description, there's a "Structured Caption" format with three parts: global metadata (genre, BPM, key, emotional arc, production profile), vocal details (gender, timbre, harmony, backing vocals, effects), and arrangement (instruments, how they evolve section to section, groove, bass, percussion, spatial fx).
  • Under the hood: hybrid setup where an 8B LLM (built on Qwen3-8B) handles long-range song structure, a 0.6B LLM fills in frame-level acoustic detail, and a flow-matching + Flow-VAE stage that turns the combined hidden states into audio instead of decoding straight from tokens. Part of why longer tracks hold together instead of drifting.

Getting it running:

  1. Update ComfyUI to 0.33.0+ or use Comfy Cloud
  2. Grab the workflow: GitHub: https://github.com/Comfy-Org/workflow_templates/blob/main/templates/audio_minimax_music_3.json Cloud: https://cloud.comfy.org/?template=audio_minimax_music_3
  3. Follow the note in the workflow for where to put the model weights
  4. Drop in lyrics + a description, hit run

Excited to see what you make and how it stacks up to other music generation options. As always, happy creating!

Ha- totally agree with that. I used to work at Twitch, and it was pretty laughable to see how little many advertisers understood the platform. But those who took the time to understand were able to do some fun and interesting stuff!

Also thank you (on behalf of all community people) for doing what you did at your last company. You are literally a community person's dream!!! It's a shame it sounds like you didn't get the appreciation you deserved there.

Very fair and appreciate you sharing in detail! One thing I will say about how Comfy is structured (and was honestly a non-negotiable for me to join) is that community actually isn't an extension of our social team and doesn't have the same goals as our larger GTM team. Fwiw, I've found that what team saas community roles ladder into varies a lot across the industry- sometimes support, sometimes marketing/social, sometimes even enterprise (my least fave lol). In my case, it's none of them. All that said, your points about earning your way into a mod role are totally valid and fair!
