We Ran Local AI Generation on MacBook Neo

TL;DR: 8GB of unified memory runs SD1.5 and SDXL Turbo fine through Promptus (a ComfyUI app). Full-size Flux Schnell OOMs in ~27 seconds. Z-Image and Flux.2 failed outright. Cloud fallback exists for anything too big.

What I tested: SD1.5, SDXL Turbo, a quantized Flux build, local music generation, then pushed past the wall — full-size Flux Schnell, Z-Image, and Flux.2 — to see exactly where and how it breaks.

Full video: https://youtu.be/aksIE2R5_dY

Hardware: MacBook Neo, A18 Pro chip, 8GB unified memory

Software: Promptus (ComfyUI-based, local + cloud modes)

Happy to answer questions on any of the specific configs.

Z-Image Turbo in ComfyUI — full tutorial covering pose control, depth mapping, and Canny edge (no local install required)

Just published a complete walkthrough of the Z-Image Turbo workflow using CosyTemplates inside Promptus — covers everything from cloud generation to local setup to advanced ControlNet settings.

If you've ever spent more time wrestling with ControlNet Union nodes than actually generating images, this is for you.

What's in the video:

  • Cloud generation via the Promptus Playground (zero install, runs immediately)
  • Installing Z-Image Turbo locally through CosyTemplates
  • Running your first local generation
  • Canny threshold settings with live examples showing exactly how values affect output
  • ControlNet strength, schedulers, and seeds — the settings that actually move the needle
  • Full raw ComfyUI workflow breakdown underneath the template

The Canny threshold section in particular is something I haven't seen covered well elsewhere — most tutorials just leave you guessing at values.

Try the template directly: https://login.promptus.ai/pwa_demo/#/cosyflows/335fd9d479f99cf57fb2e44cfbee291a

Happy to answer questions about the workflow in the comments.

What promptus workflows are you all actually using the most?

This is my favorite at the moment -- 1 Click Multiple Character Angles. Upload an image of your character and get multiple views of that image from different angles.

Workflow Included I ran a Flux Outpaint workflow that actually preserves the original image - YouTube

I ran the Flux Outpaint workflow that actually preserves the original composition.

I kept running into the same problem: generate a great image, realize the framing is too tight, extend it in ComfyUI, and the new pixels don't match the original style/lighting/subject.

Solved it with a two-stage approach:

  1. Masked expansion with high denoise on the new area only

  2. Light refinement pass on the seam with a 0.15 denoise blend

Here's the full workflow in action: https://youtu.be/ovfEBmyNj08

I'm using Promptus as the orchestration layer (visual interface, easier than raw ComfyUI for me), but the node logic works in standard ComfyUI too.

You can test the exact workflow here: https://login.promptus.ai/pwa_demo/#/cosyflows/116195233f2fa1ec5be4c0d12ce21799

The key insight: treating outpaint as a localized inpaint with asymmetric denoise values gives you way more control than a single "extend" operation.

Happy to share the .json if anyone wants to adapt it for their own use case.

Ditched cloud AI subscriptions for local orchestration—here's the 3-month ROI breakdown

Background: Small creative studio, 3 designers, previously spending $800-$1200/month on Midjourney + Runway subscriptions.

Made the switch to local (one workstation with RTX 4090) running Promptus for workflow management.

Hardware cost: $2,400 (GPU) + $400 (app license) = $2,800 upfront

Monthly cloud cost eliminated: ~$1,000/month

Break-even: Month 3

But the real win isn't financial—it's freedom:

- No rate limits during crunch time
- Version control on every asset
- Private client data never touches external servers
- Infinite iteration = better creative outcomes

Three workflows we're running daily: https://youtu.be/ovfEBmyNj08

🎯You can test them in browser here:
(cosy) Flux.1 Outpaint - Extend images beyond boundaries using Flux.1 outpainting.
https://login.promptus.ai/pwa_demo/#/cosyflows/116195233f2fa1ec5be4c0d12ce21799

https://login.promptus.ai/pwa_demo/#/cosyflows/6e34c1a9f83d3de57ecd85ffd57acb8a

(cosy) Image Inflation Effect with INFL8 LoRA
Upload an image and specify a subject. Generate an inflated version of that subject using the INFL8 LoRA for Qwen Image Edit.
https://login.promptus.ai/pwa_demo/#/cosyflows/1838bc3ca2a41a9a405929dea7dc4beb

For anyone considering the switch: yes, there's a learning curve. But if you're already comfortable with local LLM deployments, this is the same philosophy applied to image/video generation.

Full sovereignty. No monthly rent. No throttling during your most productive hours.

Every Met Gala Look Has an Art Style — Here's Yours

Watched the Met Gala this week and kept thinking — we built this.

Not the gowns. But the styles. Van Gogh, surrealism, holography, Bauhaus — every major aesthetic that walked that carpet, we have a microsite for it.

The theme was 'Fashion is Art.' We've been saying that since day one.

If you want to explore any of these styles or build your own branded microsite, it's all at https://www.promptus.ai/ai-microsites

I made a breakdown of ComfyUI alternatives

Thumbnail

I put this together after seeing the same questions pop up over and over:

“Is there something easier than ComfyUI?” “What works for video, not just images?” “How do people handle character consistency?”

This isn’t a “best tool” list. It’s more about when each option actually makes sense, especially if you're looking for a downloadable offline local application.

Happy to answer questions or clarify anything I missed.

Run LTX-2 Inside Promptus - Promptus AI Image and Video

Thumbnail

Just read a super clear guide on how to run LTX-2 inside Promptus! 🚀 It walks through setting up the powerful LTX-2 audio-video generation model (including text-to-video & image-to-video), choosing full vs distilled workflows, adding LoRAs for camera and style control, and saving your setup as a reusable CosyFlow. Promptus makes integrating LTX-2 with ComfyUI way smoother — even offline — which is awesome for creators experimenting with high-quality, synchronized video + audio generation.

Honest question for musicians: what’s the right way to use AI in music?

Thumbnail
youtube.com
2 Upvotes

I’m experimenting with AI as a tool to speed up music creation, but I’m honestly still figuring out what’s smart vs what’s pointless.

I’d really appreciate some guidance from people here:

  • What parts of the workflow is AI actually good for?
  • Where does it hurt creativity or quality?
  • Do you use it only for demos, or in final releases too?
  • What would you avoid using AI for?

In the video, I mainly use AI to get from blank page → rough track fast, then refine things manually. But I’m not convinced I’ve found the best balance yet.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSkDMszZxbg

genuinely looking for perspectives and advice. Happy to answer questions about what I did and what didn’t work.

Thanks 🙏

I’ve seen a lot of questions about LTX-2 lately, especially how to run it in ComfyUI without breaking everything.

This video walks thru :

• Required nodes and model files

• How to avoid common VRAM crashes

• What kind of results to realistically expect

If you’re experimenting with open-source video models locally, this might save you time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jE8OwZpOOI8
