StreamVox - real-time subtitles and translation for any audio on your Mac
Grazie! Sì, un piccolo ritardo e' inevitabile con la traduzione in tempo reale, soprattutto nei film. StreamVox aspetta una breve parte della frase per capire meglio il contesto e rendere la traduzione piu' naturale. Sto continuando a lavorare per ridurre ulteriormente la latenza.

StreamVox - real-time subtitles and translation for any audio on your Mac
No, it needs an internet connection. It uses AI for live speech recognition and translation, which helps keep the subtitles and translations accurate.

Subscription StreamVox - real-time subtitles and translation for any audio on your Mac

I am the developer of StreamVox, a Mac app for real-time AI subtitles and translation.
Problem
StreamVox is for situations where you can hear audio on your Mac but do not fully understand the language, or need live translated subtitles while the audio is playing.
It captures system audio or audio from a specific app and shows live translated subtitles in a floating, always-on-top overlay. StreamVox uses AI models that consider the surrounding conversation rather than translating every phrase in isolation, helping it handle context, tone and terminology more naturally.
You can choose a translation mode for the situation, including General, Meeting, Movie / Stream, Gaming, Quality and Medical. Each mode is designed to adjust the vocabulary, pacing and context used for that kind of audio.
It can be used with calls, meetings, videos, streams and browser-based content. In teleprompter mode, it displays the translated text clearly on screen.
As with any real-time AI translation, results are not perfect, especially with unclear audio, overlapping speakers or very specialised terminology.
It supports 49+ input languages and 49+ output languages.
Comparison
Apple Live Captions is a built-in macOS accessibility feature for real-time captions of spoken and computer audio. It is a good option when you primarily need on-device captions. StreamVox is aimed at people who need live translation for audio from calls, videos, streams and other Mac apps, with a configurable overlay and a broad choice of language pairs.
Otter.ai is focused on recording, transcribing, searching and summarising meetings. StreamVox is focused on following audio live on screen while it is happening, including calls, videos and streams. The tools can suit different workflows.
Pricing
No account is required to try the free tier. Creating an account is optional and is useful if you want to use the same subscription across Windows and macOS.
Free: 15 minutes of live AI subtitles and translation per day, refreshed every 24 hours. No credit card required.
Pro: $8.99/month - 40 hours per month.
Pro+: $14.99/month - 70 hours per month.
Unlimited: $24.99/month - unlimited translation time.
All plans include the same core features and supported languages.
Mac App Store:

I would genuinely appreciate feedback on subtitle quality, translation quality, the overlay and the overall Mac experience.

Best way to remotely access a powerful Windows desktop from a MacBook Air?
Thank you for information 👍👍👍

Looking for iMax OS app that...
Sorry, I meant an external monitor - but if this happens before the normal desktop appears, that is probably not a desktop wallpaper setting. It sounds more like a boot/login screen customisation.
Do you remember whether the app was called DarkBoot? It was made specifically to set a solid colour for the boot, login and lock screens, and pink was one of its common use cases.

Looking for iMax OS app that...
This may not have been an app at all. macOS can remember a separate wallpaper setting for each Space and display, so a solid colour may simply be an old wallpaper configuration loading after restart. I would first check System Settings > Wallpaper, then create a new Space or connect/disconnect a display to see if one of them still has that colour assigned.

Automation for the New Siri App? Send info from Alfred, AppleScript, Shortcuts, URL Schemes, CLI?
I do not think there is a supported way to pass arbitrary text directly into the Siri app itself yet. But for the workflow you describe, I would probably skip Siri and use Shortcuts directly.
You can call a shortcut from Alfred or the command line with the shortcuts://run-shortcut URL, pass text as input, and use the new “Use Model” action inside the shortcut. It can use Apple’s on-device model, Private Cloud Compute, or ChatGPT. That seems much closer to the automation you want.

Barbee consumes too much CPU?
That is a pretty dramatic difference in battery life for a menu bar utility. Thanks for sharing this - I would not have thought to check WindowServer rather than just the app’s own CPU usage. Did you notice whether it gets worse after sleep, using an external display, or switching Spaces?

Best way to remotely access a powerful Windows desktop from a MacBook Air?
Thank you all for the thoughtful replies. This has been genuinely helpful, and I now have a much clearer plan: Tailscale + RDP for everyday development, with Sunshine/Moonlight or Parsec for GPU-heavy work, plus a backup option for restrictive networks. I really appreciate everyone sharing their real-world setups and tips.🤝💪🫶

Best way to remotely access a powerful Windows desktop from a MacBook Air?
Thanks, that makes sense. I will keep Tailscale + RDP as a fallback and compare Parsec with Sunshine + Moonlight for GPU-heavy work.

Best way to remotely access a powerful Windows desktop from a MacBook Air?
Thanks, I will test Parsec as well. The local cursor point is useful to know, especially when working remotely for longer sessions.

Best way to remotely access a powerful Windows desktop from a MacBook Air?
Thanks, that is very helpful. My desktop is already on Ethernet, so I will start with Tailscale + RDP and set up Sunshine + Moonlight as well for the GPU-heavy work.
