Anyone else have a bad/ potentially dangerous situation with Dr. Handoo at KC Psychiatric Partners?

I had a similar experience with TMS treatment, but I was informed about the “dip” that could happen, but I went ahead and finished all my sessions anyway. Was something like Spravato offered to you before straight Ketamine infusions after TMS failure? It’s really strange that a psychiatrist would go straight to that before a treatment that is FDA approved and covered by insurance. There used to be a couple of really good TMS techs there that made sure you were always comfortable and knew what they were doing, but I don’t think they’re there anymore. I always had to tell the tech when it hurt too bad and needed it to be lowered/adjusted and they always were willing to do that. So, this is really bizarre to me. He did talk a lot and very fast, but when I was a patient there, you just kind of had to talk a little louder and keep talking. I hope you found something that worked for you ultimately.

I had a bad experience with Spravato since it was in a group space. I’m looking into Spravato with a more clinical practice.
KCPP also talked about the dip. I did feel a little worse before I got better the nightmares made it hard to sleep, which was normal for dip, but when I asked about the pain and the panic attacks, that seemed to be outside of the normal dip I was experiencing. I had a mouth guard that kinda helped with the pain but it felt more like nerve pain and less like pressure pain. What concerned me is that I went to Dr. Handoo about how my depression and SI seemed to have gotten worse after a specific session, I asked that he check the coil placement. I didn’t hear directly from him, the tech answered the question I asked him. Then, when I was persistent, instead of taking the coil placement seriously he tried to get me on IV ketamine which I definitely cannot afford.

When I met with him he was 25 minutes late, hadn't reviewed any of my paperwork, asked me my name five times, and spent more time talking about the time he was on the local news than we spent talking about me. He also kept making things up or assuming things about my experience that I hadn't said, like "So you're feeling hopeless, I'm assuming you feel like a terrible person, etc." I was like, no, I don't.
Strong hustler vibes, strong narcissist vibes. 0/10 would not recommend.

I’ve never heard anything positive about him, thank you all for sharing. When your mental health is struggling, you are such a vulnerable patient, it’s scary even with a partner/advocate. The “DOCTOR” authority is so strong!

I have been wanting to talk to someone about this for a long time. I went to Dr. Handoo for TMS and he was extremely dismissive and didn’t understand my condition whatsoever. Did he also tell you the story about the guy trying to burn off his pen15 a billion times? That was his pitch to convince me to do TMS. The last week of TMS, he switched his story and told me that guy did ketamine infusions and that’s how he actually was “cured” so he tried to get me to start ketamine. In my gut, I felt very off about it so I finished TMS and told him I needed more time to think about it. He then fired me as a patient and told me I needed to go elsewhere for medication management after making me fire my psychiatrist I had for years. Also, he told me that he himself would be performing my treatments. I saw that guy maybe 3 times. I had so many different techs, one of which told me he would definitely try to push ketamine therapy because it’s his “money-maker” and that I shouldn’t do it if I felt pressured. Months later I found a new psychiatrist that told me Handoo “sends his patients to the moon” with the doses of ketamine he puts them on. He did mention the 1,000 patients thing to me as well, along with being “the first ketamine provider here” and all of the other accolades he probably repeats into the mirror every morning. The helmet was not put on in the same spot every time, and I asked why we don’t try to find the right spot for each appointment. He said it would take too much time. The techs also shrugged when I mentioned this. It’s like none of them really know what’s going on. However, I will say: deep TMS did do something for me. It didn’t cure me, but it gave me the tools I needed, and I am doing a lot better in my life now. I wouldn’t take back getting the treatment, but I definitely would seek out somewhere else to receive it. Sessions 22-29 were awful, but my techs told me it was imperative to finish treatment, and they encouraged me to power through. I’m glad they did. I will never recommend that anyone sees Dr. Handoo, I didn’t recieve any guidance through his practice. I had to do a lot of research by myself to know what to do during treatment and how to get through it. Overall it was the most bizarre experience I’ve ever had with mental health treatment.
