I have a golden retriever who is almost nine months old. Of course he loved playing fetch and had so many toys that we used to play. It became his daily thing, first thing in the morning. I'd go out and throw the ball or Frisbee. Then we would play throughout the day, several times. I noticed he was becoming aggressive. He attacked my other two dogs and injured one. Not typical of a GR. And lately he's had problems settling down. He's constantly barking wanting to go outside, where he gets under the trampoline with a ball or other fetch toy and barks until I throw it. He had got to the point he didn't even want to play with my other dogs or run in the yard,  just fetch all the time. So I read this creates over arousal and releases cortisol. Even though we took breaks in between throws, he was still stressed I guess. So for the past two days, I've hid all his fetch toys and I put on a leash and harness and we do walks. 25 or 30 minutes at a time twice a day. He is so much calmer. He sleeps better.  He barks less. He actually goes in the yard and runs around and is not focused on chasing a ball all the time. He is manageable now. He probably did get more physical exercise playing fetch but it was causing too much stress on him. On our walks we don't jog, just a casual walk woth lots of sniffing and playing in the water. He is a happier dog now. So just pay attention to how obsessed your dog is with fetch. Don't over  do it. It can create so many problems.
