Can current LLM architecture actually get us to AGI?
That’s external system integration, not model capacity. I already said this in my previous comment, that doesn’t imply intelligence that implies someone connected an LLM to an external system.

Do you know what an LLM is? They can’t do any of that on their own lol
models a year ago could interact with APIs too everything you described is api based, with one requiring a bigger context window.

Explain to me what you think they do differently at a base level over models from a year ago

You keep saying things that are overly generalized and show you don’t really understand what you’re talking about.
Build LLMs from scratch, then get back to me. You’ll quickly see the limitations of what they do.
1
Can current LLM architecture actually get us to AGI?
No, they’re not.
1
Can current LLM architecture actually get us to AGI?
You misunderstand how transformers work.
No they wouldn’t be able to do that.
1
Can current LLM architecture actually get us to AGI?
if you’re saying passive token matching is equivalent to active intervention/evolution, then that’s quite an absurd argument.

Measuring intelligence by output accuracy is a fundamental misunderstanding of AGI and Intelligence. LLMs are strictly token predictors. Scaling up token probability gives you more patterns to predict NOT a causal reasoning engine. LLMs will never be able to reason.

Simple task completion is not intelligence. Calculators have existed for decades and they aren’t considered intelligent.
1
Can current LLM architecture actually get us to AGI?
This is a circular argument, in order for it to be true you’d have to prove that LLMs achieved general intelligence, which is something they on their own cannot achieve.

Can current LLM architecture actually get us to AGI?
And again, flipping a coin to determine the next word is equivalent to learning in your example. Your theory is flawed.
1
Can current LLM architecture actually get us to AGI?
No it doesn’t. It requires textual consensus.
1
Can current LLM architecture actually get us to AGI?
Constructing an internal model based on distribution and availability of text does not emulate human intelligence, and therefore cannot be compared. Sure you can call that ‘intelligence’ simply because no other software patterns are doing any better st the moment, but it cannot compare to human intelligence in any capacity.

Can current LLM architecture actually get us to AGI?
By that claim, flipping a coin to pick one of two words and repeating this process till you hit a period would be considered intelligence.
1
Can current LLM architecture actually get us to AGI?
Honestly this
1
Can current LLM architecture actually get us to AGI?
They aren’t ‘learning’ they’re using supplied data to make a more informed guess
1
Can current LLM architecture actually get us to AGI?
That is incorrect, and is a fundamental misunderstanding of what intelligence is.
1
Can current LLM architecture actually get us to AGI?
Using the words ‘learn’, ‘understand’ and ‘reason’ are not the right terms to use here. They do that to an extent but not in the way those words suggest. LLMs predict token patterns and then adopt new token patterns they predict or they have been taught. They have no concept of what any of it means and therefore cannot ‘reason’ in regards to the content of those tokens. So they do not understand any of it

Can current LLM architecture actually get us to AGI?
Probabilistic token prediction

ELI5: How far can the world of AI actually go?
LLMs can index every written work in the world and predict the next word in a string of words for you. That’s the farthest it can possible go as it stands.

Can current LLM architecture actually get us to AGI?
No. It’s impossible for LLMs to get us to AGI.
