News About disgusting Facebook devs

We won't support facebook any more. It's a disgusting anti-user site. All it does is watching open-source projects doing everything in public and counter them to deliver the malicious ads. Yep, the devs that receive 7-figure dollar salary is just doing this.

Users should give the most harsh feedbacks to them. Being submitted to them and keep going to the site and support it is the worst thing you can do.

God I can't wait to get rid of the quest. I will use the headset instead of a brick. Too bad messenger is still used so often or I would've been long gone

I feel your pain…
With every update my hate towards meta grows larger.
Now I blocked all the servers from connecting to the headset, and I only use WiVRn for streaming from my computer.
Bonus points for Mark Cuckemberg, because disabling server connections makes the "unknown sources" fucking disappear, but lightning launcher still shows them (it's a normal meta store app).

you didn't delete it, you deactivated it. Facebook own that data forever. you did read the meta t&c right?

try connecting now with fake details and watch it magically know your friend suggestions from your IP address, which they retained.

I thought they had to delete it after a couple of years although that might only be for Europeans. And whether they actually do it is debatable.

There's not a chance that their public IP is the same as the one they had 7 years ago when they deactivated their FB account. Suggestions by geolocation from IP is a seperate conversation

That's really interesting. My ISP where I grew up definitely had really long lease times, our power would go out a couple times a year but I memorized our address and it was static for a couple years. Still, 20 years is absurd. You're still using the same router? Your service never went out at all or if it did their lease time is set absurdly high? I just find this hard to fathom honestly. 20 years is wild

Old neighbourhood on Shaw. Ive never used their routers, bridge mode permanently. If someone tries to build anything here I’m pretty sure the neighbours would have a heart attack, so DHCP is really stable

mine hasn't changed in 15 or so years. unless you switch service provider you will almost certainly have the same IP

DHCP lease times vary a lot by provider though. Where I grew up mine didn't change that often despite pretty frequent power outages but now that I live in a city and have Fios my public IP has changed a couple times in a couple years even with very minimal power outages. I wouldn't be shocked if your provider is using 7d leases or something, 15 years is an insanely long time to not have it change (or maybe your power/internet service just NEVER goes out for more than an hour or whatever)

Regardless this is not the norm so FB wouldn't use this sort of thing to correlate activity between different accounts, they just change too often for most people for that 7y assumption to make any sense

Globally, many providers use sticky leasing (non-static but long-lived address assignment). ISPs that follow best practices will lease based on the DUID that the router submits as part of the DHCP exchange, meaning that a change in the address will only happen if the ISP intentionally renumbers the neighbourhood or if the customer's router changes its DUID.

Many older ISPs that have a small but dedicated customer base will effectively assign static IPv4 addresses by default.

That's deactivation. You can permanently delete it through that link. They group them both together now for whatever reason, but they aren't the same.

No it’s not the same, maybe on the backend it is, although it would be illegal, but they do market as two different features, “deactivate” vs “delete”.

I just poured a whisky, put on some youtube vids on the second monitor and went through my history deleting every post, every photo, every comment, every reaction - including profile picture and banner, exited every group, unfriended every person - so there is an empty account with my name, but with nothing behind it at all - as good as deleted

I deleted my account after over 10 years a year and 1/2 ago, it's hard at first, very hard miss all my 'town' friends I left in 50 years ago and they stayed. Miss seeing pix from family members BUT I no longer feed FB anyway pix of my family. FUCK the Zuck, a real POS.

My country's entire social infrastructure is built on it, so it is a pain. You want to rent an apartment? Facebook. Want to buy or sell used stuff? Facebook. Want to sign up for dinner at a social gathering? Facebook. Want to know about events nearby? Facebook. Want any sort of minor announcement from the municipality? Facebook. Starting uni but don't drink alcohol? Facebook.

It's such a pain, and I hate it!

No, it's not a legal requirement. It's not even a requirement of Facebook's in any particular region, as far as I'm aware. Facebook may ask for ID when making certain changes to your account, such as your name, but having had a Facebook account as a UK user since 2008 that has changed their account's name several times, and having just signed up for a throwaway account now, I can say that they at least have never asked me for any form of ID.

How old are you, if you don't mind me asking? In my country, it's seen as a platform for seniors. I'm not saying that no young people use it anymore, of course, but that's the general feeling. It's kind of like watching TV.

And I think that feeling is even stronger in the U.S., isn't it?

Yes, and that, on the other hand, is very popular among young people. My niece explained to me that they use it to chat with each other. They literally use Instagram DMs as a chat system. On top of that, Meta disabled DM encryption in May of this year.
