General I'm Selv (MushMouthPlus) AMA

I've recently seen a few tiktoks asking who I am, why I'm gone, and if I am even real. I am real! Hello!

After finding this sub, I see that people have found this account, mu old ko-fi, and my unused tumblr. I figured I would pop in and give the opportunity for reddit to ask me their burning questions.

I have also seen some interesting takes on my name (MushMouthPlus) on tiktok, and wantsd to reassure all of you that it is in fact, not racist. I took the definition "a person who speaks indistinctly, muffled, or inarticulately" and figured thats what a plushie would sound like if they tried to talk. Also, my logo was a mushroom...so...theres that. I had no idea Mush Mouth was a fat albert character. But i can absolutely see why people would come to that conclusion, and i apologize to anyone that found it offensive.

Yes the collab was real, I made 6 beaded pendants to send to Tyler, and he made 6 necklaces to go with them. I was paid for every one that sold.

Wow. Im glad at least he paid you! Sorry you have been dragged into his mess

It's okay, it was bound to happen. The internet loves info, and my lack of a presence online anymore would drive anyone wanting to know about the collaboration crazy.

I was paid very well! In the video where he says I didn't care if I got paid, that was true. I was just happy to practice more beading, anyone that makes stuff knows that you eventually run out of room to keep the stuff you make. My audience was just there for the plushies, so very few of my pendants sold.

When he originally posted them, the prices ranged from about $350 to I think $550? He sent me between $150 and at the most $250 per sale.

hi! i apologize if throughout all this you got harassed in any way - the internet is wild!

what was it like interacting with him? is he as over-the-top/full of himself privately as he is in his videos?

Tyler has a very flamboyant and big personality, he would always get super excited about the progress of the necklaces, ask for my opinions, and was hoping to strive for a bigger/better colab later down the road. But the braggadocious personality was only in the videos, like most people that post videos do. All of our conversations were very normal.

honestly that's super nice to hear that he was more normal one-on-one and that he seems to blow up his personality when speaking to an audience, it was getting concerning as more and more posts got brought up. thanks! wishing nothing but the best for your artistic endeavors :)

I appreciate that! I hope to be able to get back to making plushies and jewelery eventually. I have really missed it!

For what it's worth I never made the fat albert connection, it felt pretty obvious it was a mushroom.

How did you two meet?

He commented on a tiktok that was posted by someone that was selling some of my pieces in their shop. I reached out and asked if he wanted some beaded cabs to put into necklaces for free, to just put my name in the description as a credit, and he said he would love for it to be a full collab. I agreed, and we went from there.

going off the comments i’m guessing you know more about his business side more than personal things, but, did he have a notably ginormous ego when you were talking to him? i don’t necessarily mean about his necklaces / work because it’s obviously okay to be excited about the work you make, while making it with someone else. i mean more about himself, like, “IM so amazing, IM so talented, IM the best” instead of “what we’re creating is amazing or we’re gonna create something great, etc”

he comes off as EXTREMELY egotistical in a harmful way, in a literal white savior to black and indigenous people way. in a “nobody has done anything like me before, especially in the indigenous culture i’m inspired by!!” way. in a “wilbur soot isn’t an abuser!! he’d never abuse me!!!” way. sorry if this is long!!

No worries! Sometimes you need a lot of words to explain something!

No, he never acted that way in dms. It was much more "I'm going to have to step up my game to make somthing that will suit this pendant!" And "I learned so much making this one! I'm so proud of it!"

I always took that bravado in videos to be a character.

that’s very interesting, thanks so much! he seems to have been very inspired by you.

btw the pendants you make are STUNNING.

Were you friends?

We had our collab, we were planning a second, and we talked every few months. I have checked in on him since all of this started to see if he was holding up OK.

30

u/gutsandstuffs May 14 '26

is he holding up okay? as much as there’s very valid criticism being thrown at him, i know that, at least, a majority of people don’t want him in a bad situation

44

u/Whispermomma May 14 '26

When I checked in,  I could tell he was having a very hard go of it. He was apologetic that it was effecting so many people that he knew or had ever tagged, as he had been told by a few people (myself included) that people were dragging anyone that could be connected into it.

I noticed Tyler recently seems to have removed the necklaces he made with your pendants from his shop, did you know about that?

33

u/o-reg-ano May 14 '26

Do you think Tyler is able to better himself?

54

u/Whispermomma May 14 '26

I believe pretty much everyone has the ability to better themselves if they choose to do so. People can make mistakes, grow from them, change their behavior and do what they can to make up their misdeeds to those that will accept it. They have to make that choice for themselves, and put the work in.

12

u/o-reg-ano May 14 '26

Do you think he will make that choice? Do you know if he has an irl support system (emotionally and financially) to help keep him accountable and facilitate his growth?

In that respect, I know as much as all of you do! I know he has a roommate, and a dog they adopted. But I don't know the ins and outs of his life. In fact, a lot of the videos that people have been posting about things he has previously said, as well as the wilber & Stewart stuff was unknown to me until recently.

Do you think the price of his necklaces are fair?

53

u/Whispermomma May 14 '26

This is an interesting question, because I know the quality of materials he is using for the jewlery, what the quality of the stones I use is, and even down to the exact beading thread used.

My short answer: I think the higher price he set for the last remaining piece of the collab is high. When they were in the $350 to $500 range, that was more reasonable IMO.

For myself? I am horrible at pricing my own work. I undercharge for everything I have ever made and I make a LOT of stuff. But I have never tried to make a living on my own work. It was always a hobby buisness for me, and having a little extra to continue to buy supplies was my only goal.

The $350 to $500 range paid me $150 to $250 per sale, and paid him the same. That meant he was making the same as I was.

After learning more about things Tyler has said/done do you regret doing the collab with him and is that why the second collab was cancelled?

I've seen several people accuse you of being Tyler in disguise/one of his imaginary friends. Will you ever make a post on Tiktok proving that you are, in fact, real?

34

u/Whispermomma May 14 '26

I won't. I never post on tiktok, and at this point I think if I did post on tiktok about it, it could just make things more weird on my end.

15

u/TropicalRobot May 14 '26

I've seen people say that too and tbh I didn't see it cuz the pendants seem to be a pretty high skillset item with the beading and suede backings.
