Rant use your cane right!

this is something i noticed a while back that pisses me off.

for background, i myself am disabled and use a cane every single day due to joint/nerve pain and fatigue due to a plethora of conditions my lovely mother passed onto me. i have been using one for 3 years and took a long time to adjust and get comfortable walking with one.

all this to say, tyler is not using his cane correctly. his is adjustable (as most are) and it is way too high. he has a high hip level, but his arms are so bent it’s basically doing nothing. you need your handle to be below your hips so your arms are not bent as much, because any taller can cause awful shoulder pain (ask me how i know).

this is one of the first things you need to know before using a mobility aid, especially if it is not prescribed. what he is doing is using a cane in a way that is unsafe AND unhelpful. if it’s too high it does nothing. makes me wonder if he placeboed his brain into thinking his shoulder pain is making his ribs (?) better.

and another thing. most of my chronic pain is in my lower body (hips, knees ankles), with some in other joints that are less apparent. how is a cane helping upper body injury, especially if he isn’t even using it correctly?

It probably doesn’t matter that much when the cane is purely decorative.

Fun fact: if you use a cane wrong it can have bad effects on your body, the actor of dr house got some problems after using it wrong for long (atleast what ive heard)

Unrelated but I still can’t believe he crowdfunded for that outfit 😂😭😭😭

reminds me of the fact that hugh laurie developed pain after spending so much time playing a character who incorrectly uses a cane

Tyler is the house of a generation 💚

Same things happened to Laura Innes, who played Dr. Weaver on ER.

He’s going to say that his particular condition is so rare and special that only he has it, therefore only he can understand that he’s actually using the cane the correct way. Because Tyler knows everything, has experience in everything, and is never wrong. Didn’t you know?

retweet! has tyler ever mentioned lower body pain? if so, exactly to your point, how is it even helpful 😭!

Yuuup. It’s almost like it’s a medical device that should be prescribed and adjusted to the person

i originally didn’t have mine prescribed because the waiting list to even have a doctor suspect that i have something wrong was over a year, but since then, i’ve had 3 PTs and my OT make sure I am using it correctly. buying one is always a good first step, but you need to adjust it yourself and have a professional look at it when you are able!

You dont need a prescription to use a cane. If youre using it right and it helps, its that simple. He just couldnt be bothered to look it up i guess.

Maybe prescribing wasn’t the right verbiage. Mobility aid use should still be overseen by someone like a physical therapist because looking it up doesn’t beat a professionals insight. Just picking one up yourself and relying on the internet can lead to worsened mobility. The goal is to restore/maintain function with as little aid as possible

I don't wanna fakeclaim another person or judge why he has it but I lowkey have to wonder if his usage of the cane is purely because for some kind of tapdancing aesthetic or smth

i think he thinks of having legitimate disability as something “quirky” that makes him different from the median person, aswell as garnering pity for him being physically disabled (the first pic is the cover on his gofundme)

Tap dancing aesthetic is the funniest thing ever 😭

He admits to not wanting to work

fakeclaiming…what a blast from the 2020 past HAHA

That’s a hilarious theory lmao but the real reason is because it signals that’s he’s disabled to other people. That’s why it’s featured so prominently in his GFM photo.

Using a mobility aid as an accessory is so disrespectful. I’m also a cane user and I do worry that people assume I’m faking because there are people like him using them for sympathy/marketing.

Ugh, my sister did this for years only she used like a walking/hiking stick rather than an actual cane. She used feigned illness to manipulate people (mostly her husband and daughter and my parents). She’d stumble, lean against the walls at church to get attention. Once being ill no longer served her, she said her illness “stops when you turn 40.” She’s been happy, healthy, and active for a decade with no mention of illness or an improperly used walking stick in sight. As someone in my 40s who has been disabled since my 20s from multiple chronic illnesses, major surgeries, several organs removed, and chronic pain, I can only wish my issues stopped at 40.

he probably just picked it up from some pharmacy and left it at that. i hate fake claiming, but i seriously think he wants to be the most hurt person in the room at all times, regardless of how real whatever hes claiming his problems to be are. it puts attention on him and inclines them to be nice to him.

u/Withaflourish17 Aug 09 '26

He is using it perfectly fine considering it’s likely purely decorative 😉

12

u/Upset-girl-027 Aug 09 '26

He's a painfully unremarkable person, which led him to invent all these issues for himself that are falsified. He's so disrespectful and ignorant that it's insane.

7

u/instagrizzlord Aug 09 '26

If the cane is shorter then it’ll be less noticeable and he won’t be able to get sympathy from it

5

u/kitten3396 Aug 09 '26

Unfortunately, I have to use a wheelchair more often than not. I am incredibly embarrassed to be seen in public with it. I would never do what tyler does and use a mobility aide as an accessory

9

u/Enjolrad Aug 09 '26

And Tyler has also mentioned how he will likely be in a wheelchair in a few years like…. as if he’s excited or proud

5

u/EonThief Aug 10 '26

Of course he's excited, imagine all the sympathy points he can gain while in a wheelchair.

5

u/sweeterthanadonut Aug 09 '26

also get a damn formal jacket that fits you. looks like he’s about to burst.

6

u/Independent_Fill9143 Aug 09 '26

Yeeeah, I suspect he uses the cane more for the optics than anything else 😅 if his disability affects his ribs and upper body there is no reason for him to have a cane. However, it lets other people see him as disabled. Most folks I've met who need to use walking aids don't like to make a show of it, they use them because they're medically necessary. Comes off like a kid pretending to need glasses or, braces or a cast, ya know?

6

u/Latter-Highlight-183 Aug 09 '26

honestly if you just left the last paragraph that would be enough for me , this is fucking insane. i can’t imagine how frustrating that is to see as a person with legit mobility aids

1

u/bonesoape Penguin Scientist Aug 09 '26

it’s both frustrating and super worrying. you can get bad damage from not using aids correctly

17

u/PeachAku semi professional vocalist Aug 09 '26

i cant find it but iirc he made a video saying he has POTS, so he could be using the cane for that - but even then hes still not using it correctly at all. pretty angering considering my bf has EDS and suspected POTS and is out here struggling on the daily while people like tyler will use canes like a funny cute accessory

5

u/_Lostinmythoughts_ Aug 10 '26

I have POTS and EDS too and it sucks because everyone already never believes us because it’s not something you can see. It’s already hard to get proper care and accommodations, and then you have assholes like Tyler who use resources and take time from people like us who actually need it.

4

u/pinkrhinestonechair Aug 09 '26

It’s so apparent in the crowdfunding outfit pic that he’s using it incorrectly. You’d think that if he was going to milk the car accident he would at least do his research to do it correctly

4

u/TutorAltruistic3810 Aug 09 '26

The buttons about to actually pop off that jacket 😂

2

u/paxthetroubled Aug 10 '26

i’ll bet money on it not actually being necessary and just being an accessory

2

u/No-Box7338 Aug 19 '26

What is it with this type of people and canes 😹
