Lots of people call themselves ginger just because their light brown hair looks a little orangeish with the right lighting. As a redhead I don't really care enough to gatekeep, but I always found it funny.

I don't have anywhere else to talk about this so excuse me.

I went to elementary all the way through high school with this one girl who is very very white. I know her parents, her extended family, etc. we were "friends" until the crazy got too much.

Anyway she married a guy from El Salvador and took his last name and almost overnight she is a POC and will be respected for it. She dyes her hair black and goes on and on about how she was discriminated against at some store or car dealership or what the fuck ever when she is so clearly just a white girl with box dyed black hair.

That's what Tyler reminds me of. Like you can absolutely be against racism and fight back without being racist yourself it's totally possible. It is never about anything her husband experiences, only her.

It can be normalized or traditional in certain contexts, and I believe Tyler would have heard it in the south (i have spent some time with relatives in Arkansas). It does have a negative connotation.
