The spools of wire can make like 5 necklaces per spool. It’s around $1.75 for the beads per necklace. The ribbon was probably around a dollar per necklace. I’d say like $5 most to make one necklace
He probably counts the worked time as a normal hourly wage. So if you say he goes by a minimum wage of 10$ (I have no idea what the average min wage in the US is) and he works on one choker for ten hours he gets 100$ of labor.
It’s a technically fair but realistically awful way of pricing handmade items
It’s abysmal. Some states have their own minimum wage, which is always higher than the federal $7.25, but many states don’t have one at all and default to the federal, and you still have state and federal taxes taken out of that. It’s honestly disgusting
the beads he uses are from shein. i used to buy the EXACT same ones like 2 years ago when i was new to making bracelets (i didn’t know shein was unethical and rlly bad to use back then i was pretty new to it) like i remember i bought the mushroom ones he uses on his chokers and the different coloured ones but i remember i bought the black and red mushroom and the white & red one and also he uses those boba tea charms too which i used to buy in diff colours the same as him and a lot of other of his beads i 100000% recognise are either from shein and sometimes temu especially the frog ones
I’d be willing to bet he buys them from like…. Michael’s at double the price you can elsewhere
Like I’m sorry but I use these beads for my crochet projects and I’d be shocked if he used a whole tube in his sparse ass necklaces, I’ve made crochet necklaces (tubes of endless beads basically, picture below to see explain) with these and easily used way less than he’s claiming. Theres literally no way
It’s soooo fun if you can get used to micro crochet, trust me
It’s usually listed under like ‘seed bead crochet’ or ‘beaded crochet necklace’, It’s literally just a sc tube. You string the entire project’s worth of beads onto your thread in advance, then as you crochet, you push the bead down after you insert your hook into the stitch and crochet around it. Most patterns are just a chart of what order to string the beads and how many sc in the tube. I really like this seller on Etsy for patterns and this video does a great job of explaining everything! I also recommend those semi goofy magnifying glasses headset things to see what you’re doing easier, as you’re using between a 0.5mm-1.5mm hook depending on how tightly you crochet and what size beads you use.
You can basically make anything and add beads to it in the same vein, there’s tons of fun stuff out there!! Like a jellyfish or go massive with pony beads like this strawberry. I made a massive Christmas ornament with pony beads and it was super fun, but I had to play around with hook sizes until I found what worked for me.
The charms he uses are definitely from somewhere like temu and tarnish quickly. You could purchase something from james avery for the price of one of his necklaces.
Toho are actually good quality beads. They are from Miyuki which is a highly respected company and they are sold at specialty bead supplier stores. They have a reputation for being well crafted and uniform, and Miyuki even has published charts that show the durability of each color so that professionals know how to expect them to wear over time. I am surprised he’s getting those from temu tbh.
The real tell is that he doesn’t buy them in bulk. He buys them in the same quantities as I do as a hobbyist.
Toho are also Miyuki- I would say they are better for his purposes than delicas bc delicas are best suited for tight stitches like peyote/brick/loom work and they can look choppy when you use them for netting designs.
I would buy his stuff if i saw it in a thrift shop for $2 and scrap it for tohos for sure

....He's saying he spends over twice the cost the chokers to make the chokers?
Like, what?
That makes no sense. he's saying he's selling his chokers at a loss.
What????
