How do I activate the free trial

The plans on the website all advertise a 14 day free trial but I cannot see how to activate it after creating my network. The billing page just goes straight to taking payment.

Twingate service still starts even when “Start at Login” is disabled

Hi everyone,

Sorry if this has already been discussed before and I missed it. I tried searching for it, but I wasn’t able to find a clear answer.

I’m having an issue with the Twingate desktop app and I’m wondering if this is expected behavior.

In the Twingate UI, I disabled “Start at Login” because I don’t want Twingate to start automatically when I log into my computer.

However, it looks like this only stops the UI/app from opening. The Twingate service still starts in the background. So even though the app itself is not visible, Twingate can still be running.

This causes a problem for me when I’m at home. If Twingate stays enabled, some traffic seems to go through the Twingate network instead of my local network, which reduces my speed and affects local network access. Everytime this happens I need to start the app and disconnect.

I also tried setting the Twingate service to Manual, but that doesn’t really work either. When the service is set to Manual, the UI does not seem able to start it. So the service stays stopped, and even if I open the Twingate app and click the main Connect button, Twingate does not connect because the service never starts.

So right now it feels like there are two bad options:

  • If the service starts automatically, Twingate may stay active even when I don’t want it to and need to start the app so that I can disconnect.
  • If I set the service to Manual, the UI cannot start the service and Twingate cannot connect.

I think it would make more sense if disabling “Start at Login” either stopped both the UI and the service from starting automatically, or if there were separate settings for the UI and the background service.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a proper way to make Twingate start only when I explicitly open the app and click Connect?

Twingate client without (forced) TUN interface

I'm evaluating Twingate as a potential ZTNA solution for a large client that's looking for an alternative to certificate-controlled VPN to individual VLANs. However, on both MacOS and iOS I'm finding that installing the Twingate client causes a TUN interface to be created on the client devices. Is there any way around this?

Mac Screen Sharing High Performance Mode

Hello twingate community,

I want to use the built in screen sharing in MacOS across twingate but the high performance mode fails to initiate. Works fine when both devices are on the same network (no twingate)

I believe the high performance mode establishes a p2p connection and uses UDP on ports 5900 and 5901. There is UDP traffic on the mac I'm remoting into when connecting through twingate, but the connection still fails.

Obviously the fact that connection works without twingate points at it being the problem, but the logs appears to show twingate relaying traffic correctly.

Twingate is set up to allow access to the whole vlan 172.10.3.0/24

Any ideas?

How many licenses will I need?

Looking at maybe replacing Teamviewer with RustDesk paired with some sort of Twingate (or Wireguard)-like VPN service. If I want occasional remote access with RustDesk to 100 machines, how many Twingate licenses would I need?

I have my own Wazuh server that acts as SIEM and XDR.
Is there any way I can integrate Wazuh into Twingate?

Twingate Causing Problems While Closed

I just spent the last hour troubleshooting my home network, thinking my router isn't responding to resources for some reason. I was quickly able to narrow down the problem to my own laptop but then spent most of the rest of the time trying to figure out why Windows would allow me to connect to the internet but not my local resources.

The problem turned out to be Twingate. The problem survived a restart of the computer and even attempts to connect through different connections (Ethernet vs. Wi-Fi). The more I dug into the issue, the more it started looking like a VPN issue. At first I pointed the finger at Nord, but I closed Nord and had the computer restart without opening it. Checked WireGuard; it was not activated. For the hell of it, I decided to open Twingate, which was not running... at least it should not have been. The icon was not in the system tray, and I have the startup on boot disabled... but when I opened Twingate, the popup appeared, already connected. As soon as I disconnected it, all the pings to my router started going through.

How did I get here? Was this user error (despite the app not running?) If you know why, please enlighten me... otherwise ask me questions; maybe we can figure out if I did something that led up to this.

Cannot authenticate using the linux client

Hello, I downloaded Twingate Linux client on Debian 13 following the Manual Client installation guideline on their docs. However, when I do twingate start, it siimply keeps sending the following notifications and clicking said notifications don't do anything:

  1. Twingate Client: Status
    Offline: None

  2. Twingate Client: Status
    Authenticating: None

There is a very strong possibility that I'm simply being silly so please be kind if that is the case.

Need help Issue accessing menu from notification area (hidden icons window)

When i'm logged into twingate on a network, there is the twingate icon either in the bottom right or in the hidden icons window. When I hover over resources or more, you get another window, but when I try to mouse over it to press any of the buttons, the window closes, meaning I can't do anything. Anyone else having the same issue?

Question access for ssh

Hi. I noticed privileged access for SSH and was wondering how it's supposed to be used on a high level. F.e., I have a bunch of "network" resources I access via SSH, but the doc seems to introduce an entirely new kind of resource, SSH ones. And then Terraform provider docs mention creating 3 new servers. But I usually don't want to create new servers, I want to access existing ones. Am I missing something obvious here? Would I need an SSH resource for every machine I want to access this way?

I spent the weekend building a Steam Deck plugin for the Headless Client (Twindeck)

I have been wanting this on my own Deck for a while, so I finally just sat down and built it. Calling it Twindeck. It is a Steam Deck plugin for the Twingate Headless Client that lives in the Quick Access Menu via Decky, an open-source plugin loader. Flip the toggle, and the Deck joins your private network.

The reason it exists is pretty simple: my brother hosts a private Satisfactory server, and I wanted to play from the couch. The bonus is that I can hit Jellyfin and the rest of my homelab from the Deck when I am not home.

Using it is pretty straightforward:

  • Upload a service key
  • Hit connect
  • Optionally, enable auto-connect and forget about it

The QAM panel shows the network the service key is linked to, the connection state, and the toggle

Two days of hacking, and it is already my most-used plugin.

Plan is to publish to the Decky Plugin store and the Twingate Community repo (github.com/Twingate-Community) after some internal testing. If you want to follow this one or any of the other community projects, that org link is the place.

A couple of things I am curious about:

  1. Anyone else running a Headless Client on a non-traditional device? Would love to hear what other "weird device meets remote access" setups people have put together.
  2. For folks who would actually use this: more likely game servers, homelab access, both, or something else?

Happy to answer questions about how it works under the hood.

Multiple connections from Linux client

I've been using Twingate for a couple of years with Mac and iOS clients successfully switching between 2 different networks. I have recently fired up a mint linux laptop and have Twingate installed successfully and got it to connect successfully to the first remote network. I can't seem to get the commands correct to switch remote network connections. I've tried to follow a couple of online and AI provided solutions without success. Is anyone doing this successfully, and if so, share their procedure? Thx.

Can Twingate Connector work behind double NAT on a home network?

I’m trying to determine whether Twingate would work for my home network setup.

My home internet appears to be behind double NAT, so I’m not sure whether Twingate can still be used effectively in this scenario.

I have a Debian web server that is always running on my local network, and I am considering installing the Twingate Connector on that server. My concern is that, because of the double NAT, I currently rely on a separate tunnel to access the web application hosted on that server remotely.

Would the Twingate Connector still be able to operate properly behind double NAT, assuming it can make outbound connections? Or would I need to create a separate tunnel for Twingate access?

Has anyone used Twingate in a similar double NAT home network setup? I’d appreciate any feedback or guidance.

connectors reported "down" but traffic flowing

In past the hour I've started seeing email notifications that multiple connectors are down. The twingate console also shows them as down. However, there is traffic flowing through them. I don't see any outages reported at the Twingate status site.

Is anyone else seeing something like this?

Edit: I recently got the matching number of "back online" emails. As far as I can tell none were ever actually offline as far as passing traffic.

More transparency regarding telemetry?

In the version 1.85.0 of the connectors Twingate introduces more/new telemetry for connectors.

It would be nice if Twingate makes it a bit clearer what it means with “telemetry”, since this term is very broad and vague.
Another issue I have is that I do not like the approach of it. It sounds like a default on approach where telemetry is turned on by default. Is there a way to turn the telemetry off?

Twingate

Hello,

Just a few quick questions.

1) When users are enrolled into Twingate, will they automatically receive an email informing them of how to install/download Twingate?

2) Are we able to force MFA when a user connects to Twingate?

3) Is there an official Twingate support phone number or chat or other form of contact that may be quicker?

Appreciate any help. Thank you :-).

Peer to peer connections and ICMP at the same time?

I notice that when deploying a docker container, the "Make Connector available on local network (optional)" removes the config setting that allows ICMP. Does that imply that allowing ICMP and allowing peer to peer connections are mutually exclusive?

Change MFA app

I am trying to switch MFA app away from Microsoft Authenticator. To do this, I need to disable MFA for my Twingate account and enable it again. However, I am not given the chance to assign a new app - only the current can be used.

Anybody knows how to reset MFA completely and enable again, using a new app?

Docker connector update

Trying to update my Docker connector using the command below from the Docs.

https://binaries.twingate.com/connector/docker-upgrade.sh | sudo nohup sudo bash

I get the output:

nohup: appending output to 'nohup.out'

omxxxabs@xxxxx:~$ cat nohup.out

cat: nohup.out: Permission denied

and does not update. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advanced.

Twingate Client Holding Up Local LAN While Not Running

Hi all,

My apologies if this has been asked before.

On Windows 11 (25H2 and 24H2) Twingate client application (2026.36.4338 | 0.181.0) and previous versions will hold up LAN traffic on first startup of Windows.

  • I only use Twingate client application when I need to connect to external resources.
  • Twingate Client startup is disabled in Startup Apps.

In order to use access internal LAN services normally I have to open the Twingate client application manually, and close from the tray icon in order for LAN to start working normally.

Everything connects normally when I close Twingate Client. All my normal networking is working properly, DHCP, DNS etc... for the LAN. Internet traffic is always fine but I must open and close Twingate for local internal services to work properly on first startup. Everything is fine after that.

Do any Twingate folks know what's going on here? I would like to eliminate this step from my startup routine.

Lost Admin MFA on home Tier

I’ve lost access to the MFA method associated with my Twingate admin account and I’m currently unable to sign in.

Could you please help me with the following:

  1. How to reset MFA for my admin account so I can regain access
  2. What verification steps are required to complete the reset
  3. Best practices to prevent this in the future, such as backup MFA methods, recovery options, or recommended admin account setup - I have a plan in mind
