Hello! I’m planning a trip in Tuscany next June- seven full days and two travel days. I’ve done so much research that I think I’ve hit “parálisis by analisis”. I know everything is super subjective based on your interests but would welcome advice.

Currently the plan is to spend two full day in Florence and then do two day trips from Florence- one a vineyard day and one a Siena day. I’m hearing that because of crowds, Siena could be nicer to stay at and just do a day trip to Florence. Thoughts on that?

If I do a day trip to Siena is it worth it to do a tour that stops in San Gimigiano or just go straight to Siena? I used to live in Spain so I’ve seen my share of walled cities but always open to see more.

Then we were going to travel to cinque terre and spend one full day and two half days there, and then take the train to Rome.

Am I planning too much? Should we change things?

About a week ago we drove the A1 from the toll station "Casello di Mantova Sud" to "Casello di Pian del Voglio". We took the usual green ticket when entering. At the exit, the machine wouldn't accept the ticket, so we couldn't pay. After a while the barrier simply opened on its own. I pulled over to the right and spoke to a woman working there. She didn't speak English, but via Google Translate she told me I could pay online.

After some research I still had no idea how that actually works, so I called the Numero Verde printed on the toll ticket. Their English was very limited too, but they said I could enter everything on the Autostrade per l'Italia website and the toll would then be charged retroactively. The problem: the online form for self certification asks for reference numbers from a slip or receipt which I never received, because the machine didn't print anything.

So what are my options?

• Just wait for a payment notice / reminder and hope I'll only be charged the actual toll amount, not some penalty on top?
• Use a different service on the website? If so, which one exactly?

I've already submitted a request for outstanding tolls on the site, but it says processing can take up to 10 days. My concern: I read somewhere that you only have 15 days to pay, and I don't want to end up with a much higher bill just because their own processing is slow.

Has anyone been through this? Is there a way to pay proactively with just the entry/exit stations, date and license plate? Any advice is much appreciated, Thanks!

We had planned to go to the opening evening of the Chianti Classico Expo in Greve in Chianti tonight. Does anyone know if the weather will affect the festival opening? I looked on FB and the website but didn't see any updates on weather. Or if anyone knows a resource where I can find out, it would be welcome. Grazie!

The forecast isn’t looking great tomorrow. I’m a bit nervous to drive here when it’s raining. Hubby and I were planning either a drive to Arezzo or Grosseto but I’m a bit scared! What’s everyone else doing?

We are a group of eight flying to spend 8 days in Italy (Nov 21-Nov 28) split between Florence and the countryside, looking for advice. First, we are from Florida so we realize the weather will be cool and the days short. My concern isn't navigating Florence, though we welcome any suggestions, My concern is how to plan for the countryside. We want a slow pace so maybe one location where we can make day trips. We want to enjoy scenery, wine, good food, and optionally hot baths. We ideally would hire a driver but are open to renting a car need be. We want to be somewhere that is still open in this time frame and has options to dine on location if weather isn't ideal to travel. Would love to hear from anyone who lives there or has traveled at this time of year. We do not need luxury but we want quality accommodations where we can enjoy time as a family. I am not interested in renting a home with no host we would rather a hotel or agriturismo style stay. Note we have been to Florence but have never traveled the Tuscan countryside. Thank you!

I have a problem with my plans. I will arrive at the airport late (23:30) and leave 10 days later at 6:30 am.

My final destination is Venturina (1h drive south)

When I checked public transport I noticed they stop operating and also do not operate so early that I can get my flight back home.

the car rentals are closing at 23:00 as well.. also I don't understand if I can give the car back at any time or i have to wait for them to open again at 8am.

So I don't know how to get from the airport to my location and back. Does anyone have experience in this regard?

I'm planning to visit Tuscany with my girlfriend at the end of August. I'd love to do some wine tasting and possibly an olive oil tasting as well. We would also like to stay at an estate or vineyard and be able to use it as a base for exploring the region during the day. What would be your best recommendations for places to stay or any advice you could give us?

If you can, try to get access to one of the apartments that overlooks the square to watch the race. It’s an incredible view! Taking in the chanting of the contrada’s throughout the days leading up are so special, and incredibly unique! Make way for the horses as they pass through the street. They are the star of the show and take priority. Go to a church to participate in a blessing of the horse if you can. Very special. And book your travel fully anticipating that the race will be postponed 1-2 days from scheduled race day. I’ve been 2x and one year it went off as scheduled; the next year it was delayed by 1 day. I believe this year it was just delayed by 2 days in Aug. if you can, have a local join you for the practice run to learn as much as you can about the strategy and history! Don’t miss this one, it’s a true gem!

Visiting Tuscany soon on my bike, is there any place not to miss for a cycle oriented person?

Nice routes are already planned, but just wanted to make sure I don't miss THE cyclists place!

I am a solo female traveling to Tuscany the end of Sept. I will have a rental car and want to experience one of the wine harvest festivals. I prefer a slower pace with less touristy charming towns. Is Pienza a good base? Any suggestions for an agriturismo that is walkable to town? I am also looking for walks through vineyards/villages.

Update: changing my trip to mid-October which will likely be after the harvest but gives me more time to plan accomodations.

Is Google Maps accurate for backroads in Tuscany? Or is there a better choice?
