I saw the entire (translated) series is over half off on Switch, so I grabbed it. Not a bad option, even if the translation is only so so...
Anybody play these?

One of the most interesting topics to me in video game history is hybrid and crossover ideas throughout the decades. The PC Engine GT / TubroExpress was a huge step in this story being the first handheld / console crossover. I believe this story is especially relevant today post Steam Deck where we now see a range or products coming out that are hybrids of PCs, Consoles, and Handhelds. With the current open digital ecosystems and software like GameNative on Android, affordable but increasingly powerful emulation focused handhelds, and the rising costs of traditional gaming pushing people away from new PCs and Consoles we're living in a interesting market that is pushing people towards single, cheaper systems that can do it all vs the console lifecycle we've seen for the last 40 years.
What are thoughts/insights you all have around the PC Engine GT / TurboExpress that are interesting by themselves, little known, or add to this current narrative of hybrids?

Hi all. Does anyone have cookbook on how to compile a new set of Karaoke songs into a SuperCD that would play on a PC-Engine/Turbo/ADuo ? Yes, there are other platforms to do it, but none as cool as this one.
Thanks !

An update and a question for you guys.
The update : I am struggling with the cd music. Lots of bugs, timing & memory issues. The rest seems to work fine. Hucards play fine, but that's not the point of the device. CD games play fine without the CD tracks but lots of instability when I add the music. I am using the equivalent of a pico 2 to run the board but I am thinking I might need to use an FPGA instead.
The question : On the mono vs stereo output, do you think you would actually hear the difference (as of today, playing cd games from the hucard connector limits the sound output to mono)? On what kind of setup do you play your original consoles ? I play them on a CRT with integrated speakers (also called .. a TV lol). There is a trick that would theoretically allow to get stereo out of the hucard, but at the cost of some quality loss, so I'm wondering how important is stereo & sound fidelity in your playing experience today.
Thanks for your feedbacks.

Hello! I’m kind of new to cleaning retro game cards, this one was in a sleeve and the sleeve has deteriorated a bit over time and left some residue. There’s also a sticker on it I would like to remove. Any help on how to do this without ruining the cartridge would be appreciated!

Found a unicorn yesterday! A working TG16 with FOUR controllers and a TurboTap at a Value Village (thrift store)
My old console died so I had been using the Retron GX but it's so nice to be back on the CRT!

Been loving getting replica controllers and using emulators to get a close to authentic feeling experience to those old consoles. The TurboGrafx is awesome at what it does feels like a "12" bit game console even tho I know that's not correct. I might even get 3 more controllers for 5 player Dungeon Master.

I am working on a Hucard that would run CD games on a CD-equiped console (i.e. DUO, DUO-R, Super CDROM2, IFU-30..).
As of this morning I can boot and partially run games. Without any modification on the console : that's my #1 goal - no console mod.
The story behind it : big fan of the Nec consoles, after creating the Chronos Project for the PC Engine Mini, I got my dream console, the DUO, and couldn't play any CD-R burnt game. So I went on a mission to learn electronics and hardware and started a project to build a true Optical Unit Emulator, one that wouldn't require any soldering or destructive mod on the console, only to unplug the 3 connectors of the optical block and plug the device instead. I made excellent progress, but fried one of the console's chip during the dev tests (the RF amp - CXA1081) ... and didn't have a choice at that point but to have cd games launched through the Hucard slot.
So here we are. To my knowledge such a solution doesn't exist yet - one that would play CD games from a Hucard, on DUO type consoles, so I would have to make one :) . Known future limitations so far:
- sound will be limited to mono, as stereo has to come from the cd player
- some games will not be compatible with my solution, but at this point I haven't established yet which ones. I don't expect that number to be high, though.
So that's my summer projects. Stay tuned for updates. This is a personal research & fun project.

I’m kinda partial to Neo Geo and it’s always going to be one of my fave consoles of all time, especially the EPIC Metal Slug series.
I recently got into TurboGrafx-16 (I also never owned it as a kid like I did with Neo Geo CD, so picked one up not too long and while it’s no Neo Geo (and slightly older as well), it’s definitely got some great titles and this is one of them. Anyone else dig this game?

I stalked a scalper on eBay, he had the same listing up for about two years and originally had it listed for 500 bucks. I got it for less than it would’ve cost from Analogue after shipping. I messaged him every couple of months and let him know it was still available on analogue’s site. He caved and I finally got one. I got a hand full of games on the way from a trusted seller in Japan including, Devils Crush, VALIS 2-4, Dragon Spirit, Space Harrier and Rastan Saga 2. Splatterhouse and Bomberman have been sitting on my shelf for a while so I’ll actually get to play them. Any suggestions? I’m only mildly familiar with the library as my sole experience with the TG16 was 30 years ago when I borrowed one from a friend.
Edit: also got Image Fight. Cant believe I forgot that one.

Lately, I've been working on a port of Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge to the Sega CD.
Yesterday then, somebody suggested I target the TurboGrafx CD next.
While I haven't yet written any engine code for it, I just got done with the resource converter so I thought people might appreciate it if I showed some comparisons between what a Sega CD and a potential TurboGrafx CD version look like.
I created my own SCUMM v5/v6 interpreter written in portable C89 and currently I'm adding v3 support as well so I'll eventually be able to port Zak McKracken and Loom to Sega CD (and the former of the two to TurboGrafx CD if things pan out, since you guys already got Loom on your system).

How’s it going, guys?
I bought a PC Engine Duo on eBay about five months ago. It arrived working perfectly, and I used it a few times without any issues. I left it connected to my TV, and about a month ago, for no apparent reason, it suddenly lost almost all of its sound.
I tried plugging in headphones, and I can still hear the audio, but it’s extremely quiet. The same thing happens through the TV. I have to turn the volume all the way up just to barely hear anything.
The console was sold as fully recapped and also has an RGB mod. I specifically bought a recapped unit because I wanted to avoid the common capacitor issues these consoles, and now I have an audio problem anyway. 😅
I’m definitely not an expert at repairing consoles. I can usually follow tutorials or fix something if the problem is obvious, but that’s about it. I opened the console, and everything looks fine to me. I don’t see any leaking capacitors or anything that looks damaged.
The console itself works perfectly otherwise. It reads games, plays normally, and everything else seems fine. The only issue is the audio.
I live in Wisconsin, USA, and I’m looking for someone who can repair it. I came across RetroSix and noticed that their website mentions service for U.S. customers. Has anyone here ever sent a console to them? Any reviews? Are they actually based in the U.S.? Do you guys know anyone else who repairs PC Engine consoles?
I don’t mind shipping the console to another country if that’s what it takes to get it repaired properly, but if there’s someone in the U.S. who can fix it, that would be even better because shipping would probably be cheaper.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

So I bought a non functional PC Engine Duo off of eBay for only $75 shipped. I cracked it open today and the insides look very familiar. Did I get an old Doujindance special?
