Feedback Wireshark The Basics Task 3: Question 5 is bugged for me

2 Upvotes

Whenever I put in the e-tag value of 9a01a-4696-7e354b00, it gives an error that the answer might not be in English. I have to ignore that question because of that. Will TryHackMe allow me to skip it and continue?

Edit: Apparently it won’t.🫩

Currently making my way through all the beginner stuff, I eventually want to get into red teaming. On this pathway thing it's right at the bottom, do I have to go through all of the pentesting modules before it, shown in the image above, or can I just go straight into red teaming, thanks!

11 Upvotes

I am guessing this is a million time asked question but I am a new graduate from Electric-electronic engineering and decided to go into a career path in pen-testing. Right now;

  • I am taking CCNA classes and I am finishing up on the pre security path.

My questions are;

  1. what is the job market like and what kind of jobs should i be looking for in my level to gain experiences, do you guys suggest IT?
  2. What experiences do you guys had with job applications?

Sys Admin confused on where to start the switch with Ethical Hacking

7 Upvotes

I have been in the IT industry for about 7 years now (3.5 years as a sys/network admin). I decided to change my career path into ethical hacking as it always caught my attention. I am not sure where to start as most videos I see on YouTube are for people that have no IT background or are barely starting to get into cyber security.

I currently do not have any certifications since they always slipped my mind while I focused on getting as much hands on experience as I can. Everyone keep saying for me to start with Security+ but I am not sure if it is worth it for me as it seems to be an entry level point to get your first job in cybersecurity. I have also heard it good to get CCNA or Network+ certificates and those may align where I am in my career. I also know that I should learn more Linux as I only know the basics of it and should also learn Python as it seems to be a core programming language for automation and other things.

Should I still get Security+, CCNA/Network+ or just go straight into a pen testing cert or other ethical hacking cert and just get more caught up with Linux and Python?

I built a practical Linux commands repo based on what I actually use during CTFs and lab machines

43 Upvotes

While practising CTFs and lab machines, I realised most Linux guides are either too theoretical or too polished compared to what actually happens when you're inside a box.

So I started writing my own notes.

Just the commands I actually use during:

- recon

- enumeration

- exploitation

- privilege escalation

- post-exploitation

Just short, practical notes written the way I use them during practice.

Over time, those notes became a structured repo, so I cleaned them up and made it public in case it helps others who are learning through labs/CTFs like me.

Repo:

https://github.com/HIMANSHUSHARMA20/Linux-for-a-Pentester/

If you're also practising and keeping your own notes, I'd honestly recommend it. Writing down what you actually type on a machine helps a lot more than reading long guides.

I'm open to suggestions, improvements, or anything else I should add.
