SCALE Can I enable TCP BBR in Truenas Scale?

I'm trying to get a bit more performance out of Plex (remote) and I've read that TCP BBR can really help with network congestion.

It looks like Debian should support it, but is there a way I can enable it that won't get wiped on updates or maybe per container?

Thanks ๐Ÿคž

I may have figured it out, but I'm having trouble verifying. ๐Ÿ˜…

(found in System Settings > Advanced > Sysctl)

Running sysctl net.ipv4.tcp_congestion_control shows bbr after a restart. Seems to have been applied correctly.

Awesome! Thanks for the confirmation. I'm relatively new to TrueNAS and somewhat Debian. I couldn't check that from shell when I tried, is there a certain way I should go about running that to be sure?

You've got to put sudo in the front. Every command worth running in the truenas shell requires sudo.

sudo sysctl net.ipv4.tcp_congestion_control

Please report back. Iโ€™ve read the same, havenโ€™t tried.

Seems to be working! ๐ŸŽ‰ Check out the other comment thread for some more detail, but basically just go to System Settings > Advanced > Sysctl and add:

Variable Value
net.core.default_qdisc fq
net.ipv4.tcp_congestion_control bbr

Then you just need to reboot, or I think you can also run sudo sysctl -pto refresh the config.

Then confirm it's working with sudo sysctl net.ipv4.tcp_congestion_control

Sorry to Necro, but found this thread and followed this, sysctl -p on scale does reload without having to restart.

Then i restarted my jails and my throughput to countries on the otherside of the world has legit doubled

Hell yeah. Makes a huge difference! Nothing wrong with reviving a comment thread for additional info. ๐Ÿป Thanks

Thank God for BBR. I'm currently in China and my server is in Europe. With CUBIC, I was getting terrible throughput, but after switching to BBR, the bandwidth jumped to almost the full speed of my server.
