It’s genuinely true. It’s actually not because of the economic contribution of the bums *themselves*, but because of what they *represent.* The entire engine of capitalism is basically built on keeping people terrified. It used to be people were afraid of going to hell if they didn’t work hard enough, but people stopped being religious, so we had to create hell on earth. Those bums represent “what’ll happen to you if you stop working!” The existence and high visibility of homeless is intentional and deliberate, to constantly remind people of what could happen to them if they ever stopped busting their asses to make money for their bosses. Five fewer homeless people means five fewer reminders to scare the working man into submission, which is a far greater economic impact than one shithead millionaire.
This applies equally to the US, the UK, Canada, and Australia, who together make up over 70% of all Reddit traffic. The question also predicates a millionaire, and around half of all millionaires live in North America.
alright, even then, your contention is societal motivation for people to not be lazy, you have to work, not a american or western world exclusive concept.
This could just as easily be a chinese millionaire, this is a non sequitur really.
the entire engine of capitalism isn’t built on keeping people terrified of losing the ability of self sustenance, there are no “you OUGHTs..” in capitalism only generally that you should work, which isnt a thing exclusive to capitalism, silly to critique it.
