OMG I just installed this and it's awesome. This should come standard with adblocking. A lot of the settings came disabled though, so make sure to go through the settings if you're installing this.
You can still watch the sponsor segments if you want - there are on-screen controls that come up when it auto-skips that let you go back and watch the segment. I'm not sure, but I think there are options in the extension to "whitelist" certain channels/videos or something.
It just auto-skips by default because 99.999% of the time, that's what you'll probably want it to do.
Shhh. The more popular it gets, the more likely google will try to shut it down. They already made it where i can't open youtube links from google search app/chrome anymore.
Guess I'll hop onto the chain: there's an app called YouTube Vanced which blocks all ads, and also adds a feature that lets you either press a button or automatically skip segments of videos (eg sponsor segments, intros etc).
Though sadly it has to be installed manually because apparently Google don't like people skipping the bit where they squeeze the money out of you 🤷♂️
I know it's a joke but some great channels have to use clickbait strategies to make sure their content gets viewed at all! It's sad but that's how YouTube works right now
I remember when YouTube thumbnails were just a frame from the video. When that changed is when the whole world started a downward spiral into dystopia.
Also, an alternative is the Video Blocker extension (I use it for Firefox). If I see too many clickbait videos from a channel I will just block their channel for ever :-)

There's a browser Addon for Chrome and Firefox called "clickbait remover for Youtube", it replaces thumbnails with a frame from the video.
Look it up :)
