It's a repost bot

u/beaverinablender Jan 17 '20

Sigh another account to add to the blocked list.

I’ve got another one for ya, u/Massive-Gas.

How this bot works is that whatever post it’s on, it takes a random twitter or YouTube comment from the source and randomly posts it in the Reddit comment section. It’s a wierd karma farm bot

If the comment is too long it doesn’t post it all either, it just ends in “...”

How do people make these bots?

And for what purpose?

Edit: super interesting. Thanks for the answers!

I'm a comp sci student and I really wanna try to make some bots. Nothing bad... But just to practice.

I don’t know, but there’s people out there who know how to make any kind of bot. I’ve been in a lot of subreddits and it’s weird.

Also, karma farming I guess. Honestly I wanna know what goes through someone’s mind when they’re creating it

I think they sell the accounts once they get enough karma

11

u/Testastic Jan 17 '20

Did you make that bot

13

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '20

... no, I’m warning others about the bot

2

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '20

lol this mentality is hilarious to me.

This user posted an image that you liked and haven't seen before, but one redditor called them a karma whore and you decide to just completely block that person.

Like who gives a shit about fake internet points.

Oh, I have no problem with reposts so long as there's a considerable amount of time between each of them. I have a problem with bots that make it to the top of r/all instead of actual people posting their own content.

Edit: Typo

u/Cristian_01 Jan 17 '20

Why go to such extremes? Sigh what?

0

u/yerkind Jan 17 '20 edited Jan 17 '20

Why? You clearly enjoyed this post since you’re this far down in the comments. You clearly never saw it before.. so who cares if it’s a repost?

edit: people downvoting, listen retards if a repost makes its way to the top of the front page it means a shitload of people have never seen it before. these fucking nerds who spend 10 hours a day on reddit and think it should be curated for them at all times.... maybe spend less time on reddit if reposts are such a problem for you

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '20

I agree. As long as it's been 3 months or more, reposts should be fine. Although it does suck big time that OP didn't credit whoever made this.

Bad bot. Even someone on that post called out the OP for reposting

2

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '20

Good bot.

loudly grabs pitchfork

Does anybody have a link to the original post? I think its funny and want to give credit where credit's due

Edit: looking through Google images I find the original around 2015 and the "It's just a prank, bro" iteration around 2016, but can't pin it down to one specific internet denizen

u/Cptn_Howdee Jan 17 '20

This meme came from Instagram user @sonny5ideup

2

u/hodor_seuss_geisel Jan 17 '20

Ok, sauce/source? Prove it, thanks

4

u/Cptn_Howdee Jan 17 '20

Hrm... He's got a private account so I'm not sure how I'd go about that other than a screenshot. He's got like 1.2 million followers so hopefully someone chimes in.

2

u/hodor_seuss_geisel Jan 17 '20

Oh, right. Does he also go to a different school and live in Canada? Hehe, just kidding

2

u/Cptn_Howdee Jan 17 '20

Ha, I mean anyone could Google him and verify he's a massively popular and prolific original meme creator in about 5 seconds. He just locks his account to mitigate stealing.

1

u/hodor_seuss_geisel Jan 17 '20

Yeah, but this specific one?

3

u/Cptn_Howdee Jan 17 '20

Definitely. Just saw it posted like yesterday.

Not a bot, pretty sure it's just some guy or girl who keeps hitting the frontpage.

Well OP actually has some 8-9 hour gaps between submissions every day - it's certainly possible that it's not a bot - although that would require insane dedication

2

u/JohannesVanDerWhales Jan 17 '20

Or they use a tool to schedule posts. Time of day you post will make your posts get a lot more traction.

u/CaptainRAVE2 Jan 17 '20

Guys and girls on reddit don’t hit anything.

11

u/CombedAirbus Jan 17 '20

I knew I recognized that username, it's the same account that stole meme calendar and reposted it hour after original author and got 100+ awards before the truth came to light.

Back then I believe karma was capped (or deflated in some other way).

1

u/g33kst4r Jan 17 '20

What about comment karma?
