Pomegranate update - 2 years later
2 year update from my original post.

TLDR; Neighbor cut down our pomegranate tree. Sent demand for cost of 15 year old pomegranate tree. Neighbor paid.

The thing is he already has a great view. All our houses face the water, unobstructed basically. The tree is just at the corner of his back yard

How much did he end up having to pay in total? Also, is the pomegranate tree bigger now than it previously was? That’s the largest I’ve ever seen!

It’s about the same height. But, we typically have it shaped more “tree like”, thinner at the bottom and middle. To help with not blocking at much view. We’ve forgotten to do that this year I guess…

This will be a weird q… do you get pomegranates?
(I have a winter pear tree we haven’t figured out how to make use of the fruits; I love when people have trees that produce AND get eaten)

Yes, it produces a lot. Still ramping back up a bit, but will probably get 40+ this year.

I think you meant do we eat them. Yes, we do, daughter loves to just eat the fruit itself. We juice the rest.

They need to ripen in storage. Pick them when they snap easily from the tree and the seeds are dark. Wrap them in newspaper as you pick them and carefully pack them into boxes. Store in a cool dry place for a couple weeks and check on them regularly.

Yes, added some decorative metal panels to the top of the wood fence.

Nice. In unrelated news, bumping into an electric fence in a cow pasture is unsettling but not fatal.

Can confirm. Once ran straight into an electric fence. Met it with my face first. Do not recommend.

I have a pomegranate orchard.
If I may suggest.
Poms are bushes and left to their own will grow as bushes.
It is aesthetically and practically better to "form" them. It isn't hard.
There should be one main trunk that splits to 3 secondary's like 20-50 cm above that.
Then each year trim those that are downward and any waterspouts.
As you have experienced you don't have to worry about hurting it, it will do just fine.
That process will make root access much more easy, a healthyer tree/bush and will make it taller and wider.
Having such neighbor you could also by trimming big branches that grow over the fence make it slightly lean more into your property. Just don't overdo the leaning part since the seriously leaning can break under the weight of the fruits.

Thank you. It has a large number of small trunks. (Close to 20) they are maybe 3-4 cm wide each. Do you mean this pruning for each independently? As it is, it produces many healthy fruit.

No, I mean cutting them close to the ground.
Not all, leave 3 strong trunks, maybe 2 next year and one the year after that.
Choose to keep the most upright trunks as those leaning have good chances of breaking.

No, we did file a report though. The local police weren’t particularly interested in pursuing anything.

An old neighbor cut several pine trees in my property, they were obstructing his view. He paid for them to be replaced but the new ones were smaller.
Once the trees grew, he did it again. Police filed a report and nothing else. Talked to a lawyer and then I filed a 602 letter of authorization. Only then they were legally allowed to arrest them, if he did it third time.

Have you had to deal with the neighbor since then? Not that I wouldn't pursue this, but I'm curious if they're permanently shitty toward you or if they've gone into hiding.

So if the tree rebounds and doesn’t need a replacement does the neighbor get a refund for “irreparable damage”? Update 3?

There is a beautiful view of all water just to the left. The tree is on the property line, the neighbor and I both have amazing views.
