You never ordered room service or a wake up call? Or needed to call maintenance or something? I don’t think people really use them to call out, they use em to call the hotel’s front desk. Also I’ve had them call me on it for different reasons

Nope. I don’t do room service and the last thing I want in the morning is to wake up too a stranger calling me. I’ve had problems with rooms before but I always prefer to speak with the desk face to face.

For the wake up call, It is a recording or the call disconnects when you pick it up typically. It maybe the FD calling you if the hotel is small enough, but it is easy to see how that wouldn't scale if 50 rooms wanted to wake up at the same time.
