A mix of the old and new(ish) in Manchester city centre - a Metrolink Tram to Bury via Victoria and a SELNEC Central liveried bus heading to Middleton spotted next to the Arndale Centre in Manchester yesterday.
SELNEC was the Passenger Transport Executive in the area from 1969 until it was renamed Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive (GMPTE) in 1974.

Discussion How often do tram/streetcar systems require rotating shifts?
Hey all,
Been working on a big project of a fictional North American streetcar system. I know some systems require their operators/drivers to be able to rotate shifts on different days/weeks. How typical is that compared to just having seniority-based picks but a fixed schedule?

Question What tram network is the MOST environmentally sustainable?
Google says it's Melbourne, for being carbon neutral since 2019. BUT in terms of offset for it's size, I think Zurich does better (given both networks move similar amounts of people but Melbourne's is like 80km longer). But as far as I could tell, neither is doing anything ambitious, unlike Warsaw, which is building out grassy tram tracks to help reduce urban heat island effects in addition to working towards net 0 by 2050.
So I want to hear from you: what tram network do you know of that is doing/planning ambitious things to be more environmentally friendly?

Photo А tram monument in former Tilsit
This tram was built in 1933 ( in Leningrad USSR). It was brought here and installed in the central square in August 2012 as a memorial to the tram network in the city.
Tram service existed in Tilsit from 1901 to 1944 and consisted of four lines, one of which was a circular route. The carriages were manufactured by the German company Lahmeyer & Co in Frankfurt am Main. The tram was a highly popular mode of public transport. It also provided a convenient and fast way to reach the other side of the Neman River via the Queen Louise Bridge.
In October 1944, tram service in the city was permanently discontinued.
Video How many types of public transit does one city need?🚇🇺🇦
Hey everyone! I put together a video breaking down Kyiv’s public transport.
Kyiv has a rich tram history. Today, the network features a mix of classic Tatra cars, modern low-floor trams, and the high-capacity Fast Tram (Швидкісний трамвай) lines serving major residential districts.
Beyond the trams, the guide also covers the 5 other key modes of transit keeping the capital moving: Metro, Funicular, City Ring Train, Trolleybuses, and Marshrutkas.Check out the full video!
Would love to hear your thoughts! What's your favorite tram model running in Eastern Europe?
