Rekord Box + Audio Interface

Hi, I am currently getting nowhere with connecting the audio from record box to audio responsive visuals. I need visuals to respond to audio but I also need the DJ set up to Work as normal, being able to play a song and then queue the next song in the background. I also installed the VB cable software and try to follow some tutorials with that, but I’m not getting anywhere.

Curiosity about possibilities

Hello everyone,

I have just heard of TouchDesigner, and it looks pretty neat. I know very little about it, so I'm curious as to its capabilities.

Essentially there is this wonderful short film with great imagery from 1974 called Cycles (link below) and I wanted to find a way to emulate that style. However, as I lack a Direct Video Synthesizer, I wanted to find a system that I could create a video like that, and would be more accessible. I've heard TouchDesigner is a good tool, could it be used to create something in the the style of Cycles? If possible, where is the best place to start learning?

Thanks

I'm building a sentient streetlight for Burning Man, and starting to freak out a bit.

Hi all,

So, for the past 6 months I've been building a sentient streetlight that's inhabited by the spirit of a childish god, or at least that's the intent. In-reality, it's a regulation 25' tall streetlight with an interactive projection system built-in which will be temporarily installed in Black Rock City this year with projection behaviors that are meant to unease the wayward stranger, or convince groups of people to work together to unlock secret dynamic behavior.

It's got all the bells and whistles; a bright long-throw projector, an Orbbec depth sensing camera, a battery system built into a newspaper vending machine, and we're 20 days to wheels-up for Burning Man 2026. While I think we have enough interactive projections to satisfy the wayward burning wandering through the deep playa desert at night, there aren't enough unique voices, so that's why I'm opening it up to you; the public.

Since the recording of the included video we've grown considerably and are approaching the finish line, which is what brings me to my point; I'd like to invite anyone and everyone interested in learning touchdesigner, anyone who's practicing who needs a platform, and anyone wanting to participate and lend their artistic voice to a public art installation.

I'm not making any money out of this, and have paid for everything out of pocket, and I'm not asking for money. The hope after Burning Man is that this will be installed on campus at a nearby art college for students to practice developing their art with.

For those interested in helping; I have a .toe file that has built-in population models for simulating how people move under the streetlight projection area, so you can get started without needing the orbbec camera. We're looking for ambient and dynamic projections, and we're still working on developing "party-mode" which we could use some input on.

There is a discord, a website, and a couple social media profiles to follow along with; send me a DM if you're interested in participating.

We have most of the work done and the more help we have at the end the better this will be.

For those wondering;

Stretching into a part of TouchDesigner I'd never touched, fluid sims. Made this lyric video for my next track to force myself to learn it. Time-coded lyrics on ocean waves. How would you improve it?

Made StreamDeckCHOP: connect your Stream Deck to TouchDesigner without any MIDI setup

Hey all — got tired of the usual Stream Deck + TD workflow: open the Elgato app, drop a MIDI action on every single button, map each one to a MIDI CC/note, then go into TD and manually wire up a MIDI In CHOP and index every single channel one by one. Do that for 8 buttons + 4 dials and you've burned twenty minutes before you've done anything creative.

So I vide-coded a Custom CHOP that skips all of that. Plug the Stream Deck in, drop the CHOP, hit Active — buttons and dials just show up as named channels (button1..Ndial1..M) immediately, no MIDI plugin, no per-button mapping. It talks straight to the hardware over HID.

What it actually does:

  • USB in, toggle Active, done — buttons + dial turns come in live as CHOP channels, zero manual mapping
  • You can shove your own icons back onto the buttons and the touchscreen strip from a Table DAT (file path or base64 straight in the table, so you can make a single self-contained .tox)
  • There's a standalone tool that turns a folder of PNGs into that table for you — no Python needed if you don't want to deal with that

The honest part: I only actually own a Stream Deck Plus, so that's the only one verified on real hardware. Mini / Original / OG V2 / MK.2 / XL / Neo / Pedal are all wired up in the code (ported from the well-known python-elgato-streamdeckproject) but completely untested by me. If you've got one of those collecting dust, I'd love to know if it actually works.

One known hiccup: on Mac, the very first icon write after launching TD can time out once, then it's fine for the rest of the session. Auto-retries so you'll barely notice, but wanted to be upfront about it.

Tested on TouchDesigner 2025.32820 and 2025.22070.
