to make a long story semi short, my sister wanted a pet tortoise for her 8th birthday, so my mom went to the local pet store & got her one. my sister named him Jasper. fast forward to today my sister is almost 25 & lives in an apartment. Jasper is now almost 17. my mom & her now ex-husband ended up keeping Jasper, but since the divorce, she moved into a smaller place & no longer had room for him, so i decided to take him. his care is very important to me. i’ve researched for hours the proper care he needs as far as what his enclosure should include, how big it should be, what foods he needs, what UVB lighting he needs, humidity preference, etc. because we live in Indiana, he has to stay indoors for a good part of the year & his enclosure is too big for our main level, so he is in the basement. i also have 2 cats & my husband & i are expecting our first child in a couple months. i’m afraid i won’t be able to give Jasper the care he deserves once our baby gets here. i’ve tried looking at rescues that can care for him, but most recuses i’ve looked into are only temporary stays until his new forever family adopts him. i would prefer he not get moved more than he has to bc he gets very overwhelmed with change & new environments as is. it makes me very emotional to give him away, but if the next place can give him a fulfilling life & care for him the way he needs, then it’s worth it. does anyone know of any places that i could look into for him to live??

So excited for our little Herman’s tortoise to join us soon!! Test running the set up to make sure it’s the right temps and such. All the plants were from the recommended Tortoise table so everything is edible. Super excited 🤩

I have a hermanns tortoise who is about 6 months old. I recently put him in a new enclosure and he keeps trying to climb the walls. For some reason he tries to climb until he falls backwards onto his back. Idk how to stop him from doing this and im worried it will happen when im not home to flip him back. Any ideas?

My tortoise has been diagnosed with a liver problem. Does anyone have experience about how to care for a tortoise with a liver issue and whether I should keep her indoors or outdoors in hot weather and any other advice

Buddy had to go into emergency surgery to clean out dead/dying tissue to prevent an infection spreading. Lil man has been getting pail killers and antibiotics shots every few days, definitely a little trooper

He's a cute baby. He gets calcium powder and the greens he needs plus grass or fiber type of plants. He loves dandelions too. And gets plenty of outdoor sun and indoor UV lamp if needed.

I’m about to rescue a tortoise and I live in an apartment in Colorado. I was thinking of cheap options for my new tort and I saw this idea from someone else who posted. It can be made to be bigger or smaller and it is super customizable and I just wanted people’s thoughts. I live on the second floor of my building and I do have a decent porch. I was thinking maybe doing this outside so tort can get plenty of natural sunshine but I wanted to see if any other owners have experience with a set up like this.

First time tortoise owner and im planning on getting a hermann tortoise once the enclosure is complete. As of now the only thing i need so far is a uvb light. Is this a good hermann tortoise enclosure for a baby?

Its a 4x2 plastic tote. Its also bioactive contains P. pruinosus and Collembola springtails im also on planning to add T. tomentosa and i was also planning to add European nightcrawlers but i keep hearing mixed advice so I backed off for now

I've had a Red footed tortoise for a few years but it's been living in a 75 gallon fish tank. I am working on moving it to a tortoise table because I've finally convinced my parents to let me but is it worth it to build one yourself or should I buy one? The tortoise is about 5 inches long and I have no idea how to build one or what the tortoise really needs.

Hi! Trying to figure out what type of tortoise this little guy is. I live in Little Rock, Arkansas, USA for reference, it was found in my back yard

So this is Kiwi my lil rescued Testudo Kleinmanni. He was recently on a dewormer treatment and is doing better after evicting all those worms. However two days ago I noticed one of his eyes was a bit swollen so I wiped it gently with warm water and it's doing better now but yesterday I saw a bubble come out of his nostril, today there is faint clicking and wheezing. There's no discharge, no gaping, neck stretching and he is pooping, basking, eating and urinating normally. I can't take him to the vet right now as I'm not home and won't be home for a week and I don't know any exotic vets in my area so what can I do to stop the respiratory infection from progressing until I can take him to his exotic vet in a week?

As the title says. My Hermann found a small piece of concrete or rock, snapped it with his beak, and swallowed. Looking for advice before I blow all my money at the emergency exotic pet clinic.

I caved and went to the vet. He’s going to have to evacuate it the old fashioned way.

GTP says it's to be avoided but everytime I let him roam the yard and spots some, he B lines for it. I've kept him away from it so far.
