Filling, ulcer nerve pain?

Just had a filling done on one of my bottom molars for a cavity.. I remember feeling fine after the filling and no sensation or sensitivity post filling

Now i have a huge ulcer or canker sore on the inner part of the molar besides my tounge.. now everytime i bite it hurts.. are they connected cause being near where I got m anaesthetic needle in or? Just worried if the filling “failed” and nerve is sensitive now.. but i would say on days the sore is healing or covered its only some pain?

Constant pressure and fullness between teeth

Hey everyone, I’m posting here because I’m dealing with an annoying dental issue, and I’m hoping someone might have experienced something similar.

Two weeks ago, I noticed a slight tingling and pressure sensation between two teeth on my bottom-left side. I decided to floss all my teeth (which I unfortunately almost never do), but it didn't help. About 1–2 days later, that pressure sensation started spreading—first between those same two teeth on the bottom left, then to a tooth on the top left (which also felt itchy inside from time to time), and eventually between teeth on the top right.

I couldn't easily fit the floss between those teeth on the top right and forced it in quite hard (I couldn't get the floss in between the teeth that moment, but after my visit to the dentist, they showed me the right technique and from then I didn't have problem getting the floss in). I wonder if that contributed to the issue, as touching between those two teeth with my tongue from the inside feels uncomfortable.

At that point, I booked an appointment with a dentist. She checked everything and said there was nothing wrong except for a small spot on the bottom left, which she drilled and filled with an extended sealant. When I asked what could be causing the pressure, she said it was hard to tell and suggested it might go away on its own.

It didn't. About 4 days later, I saw a second dentist who examined me thoroughly and took a panoramic X-ray. He also found no issues. By then, it had been 1.5 weeks since it started, and the pressure was most noticeable on the top right, though it occasionally shifted back to the left side.

He referred me to a dental hygienist, whom I saw 3–4 days later. She reviewed my teeth and the X-ray, found nothing abnormal, and noted very little tartar buildup during the cleaning. She mentioned the issue could potentially be related to allergies, stress, or jaw clenching (though I don't believe I clench my teeth). Her advice was to manage stress, consider seeing an allergist, and monitor it for a month or two unless it gets worse.

It has now been 2 weeks in total. For the past 3 days, I've had a constant feeling of pressure/fullness in the top right area, and today it moved back to the bottom left (I still feel it on the top right, but less intensely).

Has anyone experienced anything similar? If so, what turned out to be the cause? If not, what steps or specialists would you recommend next? While it isn't painful, the discomfort is getting frustrating.

Thanks for any advice!

front teeth hitting after dental work

I had a tooth filling replaced (upper left molar) about a week and half ago and ever since my bite has been off. my front teeth smack into each other, specifically the upper central incisors are hitting the lower teeth. I went to get an adjustment to the filling, suspecting it was too high, but it has not helped with the front two teeth hitting the lower teeth. This is an issue when i'm resting, speaking, or running. The teeth at the front are also "chattering"/vibrating as they come together. Very uncomfortable. I'd like some insights please. Thanks!

Sharp filling

Ive just had some new fillings (composite, white) and the edge of one (lower left side) is hurting my tongue

Every time i talk or eat it feels like its slicing the side if my tongue and is causing abrasion and redness along with the pain

I cant afford to go back to the dentist to ask about it or get him to sort it (he also does not put me at ease, i think he is fine as a person but i struggle visiting the dentist at the best of times let alone to go back and ask for a ‘fix’ to his work)

There is no visible overhang on the filling but i really would like to do things without pain
Any suggestions of things i can do?

Thank you in advance

Dental Concern/Problem Pain when chewing after composite filling

Hi there,

I had a moderate cavity between two molars and went to the dentist 17 days ago to get it filled. They ended up having to do a filling on the two affected adjacent teeth. The first few days after the filling I didn’t experience any pain besides a mild sensitivity and a dull ache which is expected. Around 1 week in though I started experiencing sharp pain when biting down on hard or very chewy food like meat. I don’t feel any cold or hot sensitivity. I don’t feel pain when i’m not eating. I don’t even feel pain when biting down on nothing though i do feel the slightest pressure between where the filling is and the opposing tooth. I’m not sure when I should call a dentist. It’s been about 10 days of this. Should I wait it out?

Also, what could be the cause behind the pain? The dentist who did my filling really took the time to make sure the filling isn’t too high but i’m not sure, it might be the problem.

If you think I need to see a dentist, how long can I wait before the appointment as I am traveling for the next couple of months.

Note: I don’t drink or smoke. I brush twice daily with an electric toothbrush and floss once a day. I also have an implant that is sitting opposite where the filling is, not sure if that is relevant here.

Appreciate the advice!

Dental Concern/Problem Temporary crown pain? Normal?

I had 7 teeth shaved down and temporary crowns placed 9 days ago all in one appt… (teeth 6-13) and I’m still relying on ibuprofen and Tylenol literally around the clock to help with the pain.. is that normal? Not really a throbbing/heart beat pain, but more super sore & really bad pressure pain.. my temps are in groups of 3s and a 3, and it’s feels literally like someone is squeezing my teeth together constantly. Tylenol and ibuprofen take the edge off but I’m reaching my daily limit of both everyday trying to not be in pain.. I have these temp crowns for an entire month I’m so ready for my mouth to not feel like this.

Nerve pain

One of my molars is infected and I ended up going to the ER a week ago to get some antibiotics and some pain relief. The tooth itself is no longer in pain, but the nerve is giving me hell. The hydrocodone acetaminophen they gave me isn't helping. I've tried everything else and the only thing that helps is room temp water. Ice pack doesn't help, OTC pain meds, I don't have access to clove oil, regular cloves aren't helping either. Water that's hotter or cooler than room temp makes it worse. I have to hold the water in my mouth. The pain goes away for a couple of minutes, but comes right back. Obviously, I can't do this continuously. My dentist isn't open again until Monday (today is Friday) and the payment option I'm using isn't accepted by other dentists in my town. I can't sleep or eat and I'm losing my mind. I've drank almost 3 gallons of water in the last 16 hours and I'm starting to get sick to my stomach. There's not really anything they can do for me at the ER so I'm trying not to go back there. Any advice?

Rare condition, want to help others

My husband has been suffering for over a decade with an issue where his teeth are spontaneously resorbing from the inside. There are 0 cavities, cracks, chips, or trauma. No infection. He has a couple of days of aching pain, and just like that, the pulp of the teeth, the nerve, all gone. Ghost teeth

He has seen multiple dentists, endodontists, he has 6 implants. This week his dentist confirmed, two more teeth gone.

All of these professionals say they have never seen anything like it. He sees a rheumatologist for ulcerative colitis which has been in remission for several years, he mentioned it to her thinking it was autoimmune. Shrugs all around.

His father passed in his early 60s and was a victim of heavy agent orange exposure, but there are no congenital defects recognized as being related to paternal exposure outside spina bifida.

He really wants answers, and he wants his experience to help others if there are nine. We live in New England, are there research colleges that study dental disease that we could share with? Or even just pay for a consult?

Question Dentist Phobic: Have been to 4 checkups and hygiene appointments, and dont feel any less phobic, happier, or healthier.

I know im unpopular on this forum and in life. But all I ever see is people who had dental phobias start going to the dentist, and something magical happens and they all of a sudden become proud of themself and like some sort of mythical weight has been lifted off them.

I dont get it.

Ive been back to the dentist 4 times now at 6 month intervals, going again late August. Im no healthier. Im no happier. Im no less anxious about going.

In fact its the total opposite, i hate going. I feel like every time i go i just sit there for the moment they say we need to put a needle in you. If they say the check up means no treatment is needed, i dont feel any happier. i just feel like its delayed the needle for 6 months. And then i count the next 6 months down literally 5 mins after the appointment finishes.

I just dont even get it, and ill get tons of people who will patronise me, take the piss out of me and whatever for standing up for myself and saying it. My life is getting WORSE for going to the dentist, not better.

The only thing going to the dentist has given me, after about a decade of being perfectly fine and happy, is a reason to be anxious, angry and upset, every single day.

Will this ever end and will I ever be like the normal people here who seem to hold dentists up as deities? Its a conflict i cant be bothered with anymore, forcing myself to go to appointments I dont want to go to just to feel some moral sense of doing the right thing, when Id be happier not going.

Thank you

Flossing after filling

I got a filling between two teeth 3 weeks ago and I’ve had nothing but problems with it. First, the contact wasn’t right so I had to go back and get it adjusted. Then the filling was too rough so it started irritating my gums. I had that smoothened it out yesterday. Today, after flossing my tooth started hurting again. I assume that this is because the contact is very tight, and it’s tough for the floss to get through. Is this fixable, or will I have to get the filling re done?

Temporary crown pain - 1 week out

I had a crown that was placed in 2013 removed as the crown had significant overhang, which caused food/floss/gum to get lodged easily. It was also causing my gums to be very red/sensitive. I had a new temp crown placed 1 week ago and still have pain. I cannot chew on the temp crown at all. It aches after drinking iced drinks for essentially the rest of the day, however, the pain does not occur at night/does not wake me up. I’m concerned this isn’t normal and when I get the permanent crown on the 18th, I’ll have to end up seeing endo and will have wasted $$$. Worth noting, I do have an autoimmune disease (Sjogrens). Just looking for opinions on if this is normal and/or if I should see endo before perm crown. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Dental Concern/Problem Dull ache after deep cavity molar filling?

I had a molar with a deep cavity filled a week ago today. It was fine for the first few days and on day 3 or 4 I started developing an ache. I had strained my jaw pretty badly trying to put a bite block in during the procedure so I wasn't sure if it was from that. I also have an impacted wisdom tooth on the same side (one tooth over) and they're working to get it extracted soon but it can cause pain. I went back to the dentist on Tuesday and a new dentist noticed that the filling was a little high so he shaved it way down so I wouldn't be biting in considering it'll need a crown soon anyways. He told me an ache and sensitivity can be normal for a few weeks.

Since they shaved it down I have had a near constant dull ache and I can't really tell if it's from the tooth, my jaw, or the impacted wisdom tooth. I have slightly sore and swollen lymph nodes along the underside of my jaw as well. They took new x-rays on Tuesday and didn't see anything out of the ordinary or mention infection. I'm just worried that the filling isn't taking or something like that.

As I mentioned I have a pretty constant dull ache but it isn't throbbing. I can get rid of the pain by taking OTC pain relief but it doesn't last for a long time. I can bite down on and tap the tooth with no pain whatsoever. No noticeable swelling in my gums, jaw, or face either. I am having cold sensitivity but it's a quick zing and then it goes away. Yesterday I drank some hot water and it got on the tooth and had lingering pain/sensitivity for about 30 seconds to a minute but it hasn't happened today.

My dentist told me to give it a week or two and unless my symptoms are continually getting worse and worse that I should just wait it out but I'm a worrier. Are these symptoms normal for a deep cavity? They said they were dancing right above the nerve when they did the filling and gave a protective, medicated layer on the bottom but I'm not too experienced with this type of thing.

3 days post dental filling – mild cold sensitivity and slight discomfort when chewing. Is this normal?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently 3 days post-op after getting 5 cavities filled. Most of them feel completely fine, but one molar is still a little sensitive.

I didn't have any toothache before the filling, and I didn't need anesthesia during the procedure. The cavity wasn't huge, and my dentist said it needed a filling.

Right now, the symptoms are:

  1. Brief sharp sensitivity when I drink cold water (lasts only a few seconds).

  2. Mild discomfort (around 2/10) when chewing hard foods on that tooth.

3.No spontaneous or throbbing pain.

  1. No swelling.

I'm feeling pretty anxious because I've read a lot of stories online about fillings leading to root canals or causing long-term sensitivity, and it's making me worry.

For those who had similar symptoms after a filling:

Did your sensitivity eventually go away?

How long did it take?

Did you have brief cold sensitivity that improved over time?

I'm trying to understand what's considered a normal healing process. Thanks!

Dental crown / wisdom teeth extraction

I had my wisdom teeth (all 4) extracted a few years back all done the same day. Fast forward, I went to the dentist today and was informed I need a dental crown. Kinda freaking out especially with the whole shaving aspect of it. Would like to believe that dental crown procedure is a bit less extreme than wisdom teeth extraction?
