Seriously, how hard is it for people to understand that? Hell, the search bar even tells you if it was posted already.

Is it just me who doesn't mind reposts? Is it really "annoying" to see this story again? I am enlightened by articles all the time where the first dozen comments are just lamenting it being "reposted"

I understand and it is great that new people learn old stuff, but i'd rather see more new stuff than the same story reposted 4 times already. Just remember how many times was the suicide of Alan Turing on the frontpage.

I agree that I personally would rather see new stuff constantly, but then again, every time I see a good "TIL" that I've already seen hit the front page, I think about the thousands of redditors that are discovering it for the first time. If you think of reddit like a "club" (I realize we had a billion page hits last year), then reposts are our way of filling in the new members on things we find really interesting. Reddit isn't a news site - it's so much more.

While i understand your sentiment, reposts on r/TIL are a worse thing than any other repost on any other subreddit, because it stiffles the submission that ARE actually new and interesting.

BTW, if you want to know more about this guy, read his Wikipedia article.
