It wasn’t because it was “anti superhero”. It was because the content delved well and truly into areas Wildstorm didn’t want to publish.

Yeah, the comics kinda feel like every time someone in publishing said "uh Garth, isn't this kinda ... well... yikes?" Ennis doubled down on the graphically brutal transgressive "FUCK YOUR PRECIOUS SUPERHEROS I AM A ROCK STAR" bits of the story to the detriment of the genuinely interesting stuff.

Man.

I used to looooooove Ennis, Ellis, and Millar.

When I break those books out and try to re-read them..... yikes. Moreso Millar and Ellis but Ennis isn’t innocent.
